Hi guys

I'm looking to change my 009 distributor (that has a Compu Fire Electronic Ignition replacement module) I'm looking to get a vacuum advance distributor, and I'm having trouble deciding whether to go for the bosch one ( http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=11945 ) or this chinese one ( http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=11946 )

I guess these 2 distributors have points, is it possible to swap my compu fire electronic module into one of these 2 distributors, then put the points part back in my old distributor to sell it on?

Also I'd like some opinions on different distributors, which you guys recommend ,I can't really afford a pertronix Sad but if you guys say it's really worth the extra cash I would consider it quite seriously...

Thanks

Tom

Get the Bosch one.

Your Compu Fire Electronic Ignition won't fit though.

Dont do anything until you figure out exactly what you need. Distributor and carbs MUST be compatible. Different vacuum signals from carbs, different advance curves, different vacuum canisters - Post your carb info and you will get better info.

The one you showed looks like the standard SVDA, which is fine for a 34 PICT3 and many other carbs, BUT it wont work with an H30/31 and certain other carbs. If you used it on a 30/31, it would not perform any differently than your 009.

Excellent advice on both counts.

Whenever there is a choice between German parts and Chinese parts, the German part is the correct choice at least ninety-five percent of the time.

Chinese parts are almost always reverse engineered and rarely if ever tested adequately during development. This is true for all kinds of parts, not just ones for Volkswagens.

Don't rule out using points. I have driven many hundreds of thousands of miles and thousands of hours in cars and farm equipment that used points, and they have never left me stranded.

Of course, this is probably because I replace them (and the condensors) as part of routine maintainance instead of waiting for them to fail...

Neither of those will work correctly with the H30/31PICT.

AS usual, Glenn has it nailed, The only SVDA that I am aware of that works with a H30/31 is sold by aircooled.net. They have an option for a different vacuum can because the 30/31 has a very low vacuum signal. As I had said, if you install the distributors that you had posted, you wil only be using the centrifigal advance, which essentially is the same as your 009. No benefit to speak of making the change.
