Sounds like alot of little cruises are in the works to get to the services on Saturday. Maybe somebody could get a hold of Hot VWs and maybe some of the local newspapers? I'm not to good at stuff like that. Sounds like after the services, and once we are all gathered, it is going to be one massive cruise to Owens pad. I have room for 9 in my Deluxe and, I am sure there will be plenty of VWs, if any friends or family wants to drive out to Chino Hills in style I"m working until 0600 Saturday and soooooooo ready for this year to be over. Still missing you bun boy but thanks for ALL the great times! |
Henry and all,
I did just that when you suggested it and contacted Hot VW's Magazine. Today I received the e-mail below. Knowing up front I am no writer and there are so many friends that can contribute I figure it is better to post thoughts here and maybe I can put them together.
Don,
If you could write-up a short memorial, and perhaps supply a photo of Brad, we'll try to get it into our FYI section. Reading all the postings on The Samba, he certainly was a great guy, and quite the VW enthusiast.
Please send the information to [email protected].
Thank you,
Bruce Simurda

I'm going to stop by Owens on my way back up the hill. I have some stickers and some funds from BBB to drop off. Auslander and some Baja folk went by Saturday to work on B-rads Baja. Think there might be some off road adventure being planned in the future. I'm with J-phrrrrr, bljones is very eloquent and would do a great job on a wright up. BBB was great and the memorial service we did for him was filled with great time and greater memories of the little bun boy. A month to the day and the emotions catch me at some odd times. Yeah, I still miss HBB everyday! _________________ "It is EASIER to customize a car then it is to RESTORE one"

It was just Owen and myself on Saturday got alot done though. Owen has been busy on the car, changed the roll cage up a bit and added to the design as well. He has been busy patching up areas that were cut for the cage and he is also adding a third seat we mocked it up. I wrote a list of what needs to be done (mostly tedious patch welding) and a list of what is needed for the car. So here is rough idea of what is planned: A campout 30 Apr-2 May at Afton Canyon, which is about 45 miles above Barstow. This was B-Rads favorite offroad spot, we'll be taking his baja out there we'll have a little memorial for him as this is a spot he wanted his ash's spread, more to come _________________ Zombie

Jennifer,
I believe that bljones would do much better than I would at writing the story also. _________________ FUCK CANCER FUCK CANCER FUCK CANCER!!

I find myself reading old texts and emails from him all the time. I know this conversation will come up frequently, especially in this first year without him. Miss you Brad.
So, close to 400 stickers were cut and sent out. Four frickin hundred, isn't that awesome?! I've been trying to collect all the pictures and keep them in one place. I took some at the memorial, EZ took some at BBB and the ones that have been posted here. I need a little help ID'ing everyone. So when you get your sticker in place...post it up. HBB is crusing all over this country.

All stickers have gone out so if you didn't get one, its a good possibility that your IM was buried. There was about a week where it was hard to keep track. So just send me a nudge and I'll get one out to you.

I'd be honoured to scrawl Brad's HVW Memorial.
But, I won't do it alone.
I want to hear from everyone- your thoughts, your memories, and your brad stories. Let's keep it confidential- send me a pm, and we'll do this bitch up right. _________________ OG JHC

I dont post much here. Im a VW nut yes, but i mostly lurk. So i really never talked to him on here. I did read alot of his posts and conversations in various threads. And yes, he talked a little crap on some of my rides (but im a dumb kid who doesnt talk crap on my rides!) But he seemed like a great guy. Even though i didnt know him personally, i got goosebumps reading some of the stories people posted in this thread, and the pictures posted here. Even though i didnt know him he was family, VW family.
RIP Bro.... _________________

RIP, Hamburger Brad.
(I've just found out since yesterday. Found this thread after I checked other forums after the split bus forum. After posting in the thread that Al (Hella Bro) started. Still not sure what else to say about the losses of Sambanistas. Shocked.) |

Wow....it's always sad to hear of a passing in the VW world, especially a life so young. I still can't believe Brad was only a year older than me (25 to my 24).
Can't recall if i've ever met Brad; i know i didn't in person, but i can't remember if he was an admin over on Aircooled VWAddiction.
RIP HBB; cancer is a damned hellspawn, and i hope we find the cure someday.
Can i still get one of those HBB memorial stickers?
And which issue of Hot VW's was his memorial in? _________________ vwfan4life
