I had to do the same sort of transmission stud repair. What I did was drill out the broken stud, tap the hole, then screw in a new grade 8 stud then weld around the base and finally grind off excess weld. My welding skills are not as clean as yours appear to be but by drilling, tapping and welding it provided good strength. I just recently reinstalled my tranny and it seems to hold really well.

I don't see where mine will be an issue. I chamfered both the new bolt and the old one. There shouldn't be a ton of strain on those bolts anyway. It's not like we're dealing with a 600 hp big block. Very Happy

Thanks for the compliments. I really do appreciate them.

What, you're not going 2332, laughing gas, twin turbo?!
You are doing some really nice work. It should turn out to be a Sweet ride! There is nothing as nice as a clean, painted pan! Razz

Thanks very much. I am very undecided as to engine. Money is the main issue of my decision. Do I spend what I can now and be driving, or do I save for what I wanna do and be driving in a year or two? Who knows. Right now I'm struggling with doing body work as that is the part I hate the most.

And yes, I almost cried when I finished painting my pan. It was a beautiful sight. But was I crying because of the cramps in my hand from brush painting or the joy of seeing my accomplishments? lol

Dude, you're well on your way to being a pro.

Makes me wish my bug wasn't stuck in DD duty so I could pull the body off.... but maybe I don't want to see how it looks with the body off... Shocked

I haven't posted in a while so figured I should. I have since purchased a '70 Bug and kept the '73 pan I restored and sold the '73 with the '70 pan. I have come a long way from the last photos. Here are a few photos taken when I got the bug and how it sits now.
