You got your safari latches on wrong as they should point outwards.
Try to open them and you'll see what I mean.

Rest of the bus looks killer!!

unless bd are different thats the correct way

as volksfahrer noted, they are positioned wrong and they would be the same "pointing outwards" throughout all split bus years. look in any factory repair manuals and you will see that the handles should point out. as he mentioned, try to open and youll understand why they are placed the other way.
without having to scan a manual, the best i could do is find a photo of an original set in a post bd.

dennis and i were very buisy this weekend.. we did a lot of little things, man this all costs time. one of the things was we did the steering working..
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

we also overhaul the old bd fuel tank.. dennis lost some skin by doing it. so beware of fire if you playing with some rustprotecting stuff for fuel tanks. Wink

btw.. is the a trick how to fit the horn button? at the moment, it doesnt fit, but i guess we will handle this.

and can someone let me know, where the cables are going for the horn button? i´m not shure.. Confused

Horn button should have a coppercolored spring protruding from the inner
diameter, first insert that in the wheel opening, push the horn button in the direction ,depressing this spring and slip in the rest of the button. Careful, bakelite might brake ! Make sure it is the right diameter. Lots of different Petri buttons out there, standard beetle,bd, even non VW ones with slightly larger prongs...
Wire goes all the way down through the coloumn, located with a small clip underneath, then to the horn.(button switches Minus/ground of steering gear column to the wire then to horn. other horn terminal is +)

good luck with the rest of it.

where are you going to blow the hot air to ? against the floorpanels?
I'm not sure about the efficiency of that setup!? Or probably that's the reason why there are no floorpans... Twisted Evil Wink

Make it blow upwards, cut a few louvres, then it's a free heater for the back! Cool

if so, where's it gonna suck the fresh air from ?---down below the I beams where the hot air blows to?!

you won´t believe what weekend we had.
first i drove all day to find matching oilsittings for my oilsystem.
then we pulled the engine out to repair the busted studd.. put the engine in again and looked for oil leaking, but unfortunately the damn oilfittings were leaking, because of didn´t matching the oilcooler (this must to be changed on monday) and not enough sealing tape..(this is now fixed) anyway.. after fixing the oilproblem we tryed to start the engine..
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

unfotunately the started had some problem with the 2110ccm... after changing 4 starters finaly we got the right one.. (thanks marco).
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

unfortunately i destroid the holder of that starter because it wasn´t enough space for a starter like this in my bd... so the mission vowo was over. because i don´t have any extra money to buy a new started.. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad we realy thought it´s all over now, but then i found out i can change the positions the holes from the starter
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and then after fitting some grommets finaly the starter worked fine and then...... after 4 starter and three batterys later the engine starts! Very Happy

i can tell you this first hand.. words can descibe what dennis and i was feeling at that point! Cool Cool Cool

anyway.. the engine is running now, but needs some more love. unfortunately the og fuelpump doesnt work.. don´t know why, but we need to figure that out.

ok.. still 25 days to go.. and still alot to do.. but we are in time.

You´ve done so astonishing work so far! Don´t get discouraged by an alternator and it´s circumstances.

Dennis and you deserved it to be at VoWo 2010 with your porndoor. I´ll keep my fingers crossed for you guys.
