So I'm going to pick up a used 2.1 in the next couple weeks and I was curious what they weigh? Is it reasonable that two reasonably fit guys in late 20's and early 30's repectfully could lift the engine and put it in the back of a truck or do I need a hoist?

I moved my engine out of my van and into the house by myself using a ramp and a dolly and then back out to the van after it was rebuilt. I think they weight about 400 pounds.

Me and my dad recently moved an engine down a flight of stairs and into our basement pretty easily. No accessories or intake were on the engine though.

If it is just the engine longblock you can lift it by yourself. If it is fully dressed (alt, exhaust, intake etc.) then you will need 2 people. I have done both versions several times.

Yep - what all of these people said. Been done many times. I delivered a 2.1 to a buddy's in my Panel Van. 3 people was too many cooks in the kitchen, so we used 2 and it was easier and faster.

Can be handled by two people. A buddy and I moved a 2.1 from the garage to the basement. Now I am looking for someone to help move it back to the garage. Any takers????

Thanks everyone for the replys, seems like everyone thinks it's pretty do-able. Saves me renting or buying a cherry picker.

My favorite way to move an engine is to hook a ratchet tie on it securely and run a long beefy pipe through the loop. One person on each end. Still heavy, but very ergonomic lifting and it lets the engine be fairly close to the ground so if it drops it doesn't get hurt or hurt anyone.

the 2.1 wbx is 225# with headers. do yourselves a favor. back the truck up to it and when you guys go to lift it, do so with your elbows on your knees. it saves your back until its halfway up or so. then youve got it on the run. position it with a scateboard..

The $16 furniture dollies from Harbor Freight work really good for moving these engines around.
