I'm rebuilding my 40hp 1200cc engine and the cam is shot. The cam gear is a +1 size so I'll have to transfer it to the new camshaft. Do the holes in the camshaft get tapped for bolts or can I use nuts and bolts?
Also, can I go with a Engle W-100 cam without changing anything else? _________________ Joey

If you new cam isn't tapped already, you need to drill and tap it _________________ 58 Beetle (now just a pile of parts in the corner)

Well you dont say much on what your doing .
I love a good flatt dish Camm gear on a Engle 110 .
have to remove or drill rivett's out .
Then have the Gear counter sunk < so bolt's cant hitt the oil Pump houseing .
Special Shoulder bolts need to be used .
Definately plann on Degreeing the Cam .
If you runn a Camm you will need Solid shaft rockers and H.D. Valve spring's .
If you line Bored the +1 gear may not be the correct pitch radiuse < also apply's if Engine has been rebuilt before and some one got it wrong ?
Do you know how to get a proper pitch radiuse ?

The engine was rebuilt (not by me) about 5 years/9k miles ago. The case was aligned bored then. Just the crank, not the cam - still no cam bearings.
Ever since I got the car ('65 Beetle) the engine always idled like only on three cylinders... or less. Compression was good in all cylinders, had good power and fuel economy but the engine had a bad wobble at idle. I pulled the engine and tore into it and found the third lobe from the cam gear was badly worn - .070" shorter than the rest. I'm guessing it was put in in that condition as I've never seen anything in the oil and all the bearings and crank look fine. No metal in the bottom of the case whatsoever. The cam is a Cofap cam. On the camshaft between two lobes you can see where they grounded off the VW logo but left the four linked circles so it was probably (incorrectly) re-ground.
Someone local has a Engle W-100 cam still in the box for sale and I was gonna get that and transfer the gear over to it. I've since discovered that Wolfsburg West sells stock cams with the +1 size gear so I'll just get that and re-assemble the engine (with new bearings - not that it really needs 'em but since I'm in there...).
Anyone know the brand of stock cams that WW sells? _________________ Joey

Yeah for you sett your heart on +1 Pitch radiuse gear ?
Set the dizzy drive and dizzy sett the crank and camm .
use a junk Dizzy rotor on the dizzy to slide crank back and forth on it's thrust then back torwards fly wheel until it stop's then just forward a hair .
Mimic an approx thrust setting in other word's ?
Then grabb 1 an 2 rod's rotate the crank holding some pressure torward's the fly wheel side of case .
If Camm lift's up in it's saddles it's to Positive .
I use like + 2 < lift's up then you try a +1 < doesnt lift up It's good .
You can get away with to loose < make's lil noise but not to + and tight .
