I prefer single stage as well. All the single stage paint I have ever had mixed at my local PPG Plantium dealer or even other times I used Sherwin William's or Dupont products over the years I've always been pleased with the colors they mixed from me just giving them the factory paint code I wanted.
I've painted some other makes with BC CC but prefer the look SS gives for VW's and orginal VW colors ( as noted by others) |

The shop that did my paint job was going to use base/clear but then they could only get Ceylon Beige in single-stage paint - and I'm REALLY glad for it - I really like the single stage look.
And I have to agree about the stock VW colors - most just don't do it for me. Montana Red is nice though - I almost went with that but I have gray curtains and as a Michigan Wolverine I was not going to have a red bus with gray curtains... |
Go BUCKS!!!
and to keep this thread on track-single stage.... not for the sake of origionality but because I'm not a fan of overly shiny buses. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

Nice red and white job on the bus. Makes me think of my first one, a 66 split that I had to push start half the time. Always parked that one on a hill even after the starter was fixed. |

Hey all, just an update, I did go with the single stage urethane and ordered the paint today. With a bit of luck I'll have the back of the bus in order by the weekend and roadworthy. I'll post the pictures as they come along. Thanks for all the feedback on the issue and I promise not to let it get too shiny! |

I went with Single Stage. It actually came out quite glossy because I used a gloss hardener in the paint. If I had to do it again, I would go with something less glossy.
