Gee whiz... we need more of these in the US, be they cargo vans, peoplemovers or campers. All we ever see here in the way of European vans (with the exception of Volkswagen busses, Vanagons and EuroVans) are the occasional Mercedes or Fiat Multipla. Pretty nice conversion inside, too. Cool

Most non-VW people, and even a few VW people used to late-model water-cooled cars or air-cooled cars and busses only, may think that the LT is some kind of 70s or 80s Japanese Domestic Market vehicle converted to LHD with a VW badge on the front where Toyota, Hino, Nissan or Isuzu "should" be. Laughing I'd enjoy explaining that it was actually a Volkswagen product that didn't cross the Atlantic onto Yankee or Canuck soil when new. Smile

we had one that became the shop RV, back in the early '90's. it was a VW LT35D, that had a full RV body on it. it was pretty cool, but slow too. I believe that was a 2.4 L diesel in it as well.

oorwillie, would you help a fellow LT owner out (in the USA specifically Florida)
with a part for my 1992 LT55 Doka dump bed?

I need a passenger side kingpin front wheel suspension part. at this point I should get a front driver side too. (so I have both)
I am having trouble getting one shipped here in the states. I would be happy to paypal you and any shipping too!
thanks Smile

Hello samba! So happy to have a sticky! My name is Kit and I purchased a VW LT50D September 2019.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_LT

I found it at a obscure auto dealer in Cleveland Georgia. After going back-and-forth and doing a lot of research, they performed some work such as oil and timing belt changes, took it to a tire shop for me where I purchased All new tires and tubes, my partner and I flew from Oregon To Georgia in hopes of driving it back. No such luck. Our first flat tire was in Tennessee, or second two flat tires were in Kentucky. We ended up putting it on a flatbed and having it shipped back. That was not cheap…
After doing research on the vehicle and finding all the original paperwork in one of the cabinets. We have to deduced the following. We are the fifth owner? It was a custom build and only one of one. The gentleman who commissioned to build had the last name of Koch in Germany. Vario mobil

https://www.vario-mobil.com/en/historie.html

was the coach builder. At that point in time Volkswagen was not making its own four-wheel-drive chassis and the Sulzer

http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/24th-may-1980/30/vw-enters-4x4-market-with-lt

company converted it to four-wheel-drive.
It is powered by a 2.4 L turbo diesel Made by Volkswagen.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_D24T_engine

I have since replaced the rear axle with a GM 14 bolt with an ARB rear air locker. Compressor is on board. I have rebuilt the turbo, I have rebuilt the injection pump, complete new exhaust, second set of all new tires, everything works now! Here are a couple pictures. Thanks again Everett for making a sticky!
