Howdy all!

I've got a Fastback with a new (rebuilt) 1914 with dual baby Webers. My brother gave it to me because he couldn't get 'er running. She's popping, running very rough, barely idles. I believe i've eliminated all but the carbs. Checked the timing, set the valves, etc. The carbs were supposedly rebuilt. Will the carbs give it the above symptoms?

Thanks,
Michael

Yes the carbs could do that.

First, are you familiar with working on dual carbs? Are you sure you have no vacuum leaks? Are they synchronised? What size jets are you running? If you want to read up on dual carbs here are a couple of good tech articles:

Thanks guys! This is way worse than being out of sync. I'll read the threads and reacquaint myself.

Thanks again,
Michael

I'd take 'em both apart and clean them thoroughly, if they were mine. After a rather bad experience with a brand-new Weber (purchased through Carbs Unlimited), I've learned even the manufacturer can leave some trash behind.

And it don't take much to plug up a Weber!

Get you a selection of pipe cleaners, strand a few lengths of electrical wire to poke out the really small stuff (copper shouldn't score or otherwise harm the aluminum or brass parts), a blowgun is nice too, and a bucket of Berryman's Chem-Dip carb cleaner. Works wonders! (Note: do NOT leave anything rubber or plastic on the carbs when you dip 'em - Chem-Dip will destroy the stuff in short order)

Sage advice, too.
