I tried searching for an hour or two in the archives to see if a 356 rim will fit on the Thing. Lots of info for adding a “late” model rim, but I didn’t see anything for the slotted 356 style rim, such as http://www.bfyobsoleteparts.com/porsche-356-road-wheel-pr-3885.html

I’m pretty sure about the bolt pattern being the same, but am concerned about the off-set. Primarily looking at the 5 ½” x 15” . Or perhaps someone can recommend a place where I can get them?

I have them on mine -- if you get the chrome, though, you need to clean them regularly. They're made in Brazil, and the chrome plating isn't up to German standards, so you need to keep the rust in check. Keep some chrome polish on hand. In any case, they fit well, look great, and let you put decent tires on The Thing.

Thanks guy's! That's really good to know about the chrome. What tire size did you end up going with?

I think you need a Porsche 597 Jagdwagen for your 356 rims Very Happy

Hello,
i have real 356 wheels on my thing.
They only are 4,5x15. That´s the original size for the 356.
I squeezed 7.00x15 tires on it and they barely fit the fenders but they do.

I know it's been a couple of year since this was discussed, but what size tires did you go with with the 5.5 wheels? 195/65/15? 205/60/15?
