no, there is no bulk head separating the fuel tank and engine in the '68

Correct, but I am adding one to my 68. I like the look of the divider.

Moving right along I found some time to start on some body work and dismantle the insides some more.

Got the windshield out and found the little lip edge starting to rust through in some small spots. So I got the wire wheel grinder out, removed any loose crap and filled the craters in with mar-glass. Almost done with that and it looks good.

I then took the rest of the insides out. Found my side cabinet had a rotten floor from the window leaking. Nice. I was lucky that it didnt rust the bus at all. Then I yanked the floor out and was amazed that it to hadnt rusted through anywhere. Just the typical traped moisture areas. Cool!

So tomorrow Ill clean it out some more, finish the upper nose and start in on the front floors and dog legs.

Ive done alot of pullin apart and body work-boring stuff getting ready for the big sand prior to paint. Along the way Ive started in on restoring some small bits like the headlights. I bought some Hella H4s like 3 weeks ago and have got one of the holders finished-painted-steel wooled and ready to put back on. I took the guage cluster apart and cleaned it as well.

Hey, nice van, man. It's very groovy. Does it smell of pachouli oil and granola? I bet someone once saw a Grateful Dead concert while driving that thing, hence the flaming orange paint. Groooovy. Only color worse would be that horrible puke green with the puke green plaid uphostery. After the GD concert they probably went camping with maybe a little surfing thrown in. Again, grooooovy.

Yesterday was a good "what have you done for your bay window" day for me and actualy the family. Everyone oitched in and helped do the last little bits of tear down to get to the shell. All the camer interior has been removed one but was loose laid back in to store till a better storage was found. Well to my surprice the girlfriends idea was to put it in our big ass kitchen Shocked Shes a keeper for sure Wink So with that all situated the pop top came off as well as that last window. I have so much space as compared to before i think Ill take the doors off and do it right.

Now I can prep for the dark green paint I want it to be Twisted Evil Should be less of a fight now to get all this body work done.

I did find that the case is trashed on the motor. Lwer stud was put back in place with the chunk of case by JB Weld Confused

Nice. I bet there is alot more munch monkey issues with this motor judging by the oil spew in the engine bay. Now I know why a "spare" motor was added to the deal I guess.

I have a full on respirator. Spraying RB on while lying on your back allows it get all over you. I was still blowing silver out of my nose this morning.
I'll have to get Yvonne to take a photo of me when I finish spraying. My clothes, goggles, bandana that wore on my head, respirator were all spreckled in silver. Some of it could be getting into my skin.......I should have had Dusty spray it. I am so bummed by my progress on this aspect.

I was able to get a 71 dash in good shape to restore. I also was able to see what I would need that different from the 68. I tore it all down and repainted the top-jellied it all up and now it looks awsome.

Rather be buggin will have a nice 71 column for me with key. Baring that is there any other bits I need to worry about during switch over?

It also has a chunk missing from the bottom. Any ideas on how to make that look better?
