|
|
Just about finished putting my rebuilt front end together and brakes are next on the list.
I found 4 NOS wheel cylinders and 2 of the inner seals were questionable. I bought Brazilian rebuild kits for them and they seem awfully easy to slide into the bores. All I can think is that either Brazilian seals aren't as thick or repop wheel cylinders have a slightly smaller bore.
I tried to do a leak test with some brake cleaner and brake fluids and they passed but I'm still a little concerned.
Anybody care to chime in? _________________ Barndoor Mafia

I'm curious about this subject, too- I don't have NOS cylinders to rebuild but they are old German units. |

I've used lots of Brazilian kits in og ones. If they don't leak then that's the test. When you tromp on the brakes the lip on the cup spreads even tighter. Pull off a drum someday and peek inside a boot and tell us what you see. |

I just rebuilt my original ATE front wheel cylinders. The seals were decent, but the original ones seemed just a bit loose. After sourcing new seals from two different manufactures I was happy to find that one of the two manufacturers seals was just a bit larger, so after honing I felt these would provide a better seal. Bottom line: check your OG seals, and if you buy new ones check them all. Some might fit better than others. |
