So I drove the squareback to a friends house and everything was fine. It sat for about 3 hours and then I left to go home. On the way home I noticed I had about half the power. I couldn't go over 35 MPH. I have no idea what's going on...I know that's not much info, any ideas? I'm at a loss just like the power of my little 1500.

yeah twin carb. linkage is all hooked up. when i give it throttle from the gas pedal while in neutral or from the tree in the engine compartment, everything sounds as it should. not like it's only rev'ing up half way. it's only when it's in gear and moving that i can't get any power it seems.

Balance tube leak? Points gap changed? Got to be something simple.

vacuum advance hooked up or tore diaphragm if you have A vacuum advance distributor. And if you do have vacuum advance and it still has the hose hooked up take your distributor cap off suck through the hose that goes to it and see if the points plate is moving it should.Or it's not running on all cylinders? they are known to pop spark-plug wires off under load.

my vote is something in the spark plug wires and/or cap to me. inspect those while you're checking for the stuff suggested above ^^

I'm with Tram, check your carbs. I had this same exact problem except that mine was from an overnight sit at a glass shop. Drove fine going and when I left I couldn't get out of 2nd gear and with little power. Limped it home, checked timing, spark, fuel delivery, and nothing helped. Re-synced the carbs helped a bit, but I found I had one leaking throttle shaft. Rebuild time! I had to have a the throttle shafts machined by Phil Eslin in ABQ.

Well, Sally is driving again. I checked the spark plug wires and they were a little loose. I took her for a test spin and everything was fine. Then, I actually took it out on the road and she started acting funny again. Luckily for me, where I pulled over, there was a house with a '67 Square, and a '66 Fasty sitting in the driveway. John, the nicest guy in the world and owner of the two type 3's came out and saw me tinkering. He asked what was wrong and I told him I was only getting about half power. Then, he helped me sinc the carbs and do a minor tune up. Everything runs pretty good now. Runs like a champ! He even offered to show me how to adjust valves and do some other tune up stuff. And guess what, he has his brothers '62 Notch sitting in his garage. Nice guy with some nice cars. I need to have the throttle arms re-bushed soon as I am indeed getting some air leakage. But in time I guess. For now, it's back to waiting for my tax check so I can get some more sheeeit done. I love nice people. I love nice Type 3 people even more.

That is so cool and someone was watching over you to have this happen in front of a type 3 owners home.
I am glad to read the car is back to where it needs to be.

so i'm thinking its the throttle shafts. they must be getting worse and are leaking more air. it was running better after the carbs were sync'd but today it started doing it again. it drove very nice the first time, parked it for a few hours, then on the way home it just started stuttering again. i was flooring it just to go 35 mph. i hit 50 down a hill but then it slowed down and started sputtering again.

When my german blue coil started to die, it sounded just like you're mentioning. It would rev fine witout a load on it, but trying to go down the road, it could hardly get out of it's own way. I found it after changing a bunch of other items, as it was the last thing I checked, because I figured if it ran, it was still good. Well nobody said it can't do a slow death either. I know the new blue coils just up and quit when they feel like it.
