i just got this vanagon syncro and the oil pressure light flashes every now and then. i've heard this is a problem with these, tho the other two vanagons i've owned never had this problem.
also the gas guage doesnt work. i lifted out the dash pod and notice the connectors on the plug in on the back of the dash are a little mangled. i'm thinking a new dash pod will take care of both problems.
any advice is appreciated.

Yes the Vanagon forum is a lonely place. (said as a tumbleweed slowly rolls by). A new pod would be a start if you can get one cheap enough. I would also check the oil presure sender, or get a new one.
my gas guage stopped working after I took the pod off. Found out a little thing called the voltage stablizer fell off. clipped it back on and it worked fine again. My Vanagon is an 81 aircooled so I don't know how much differant yours is. The Place to get info on Newer Vanagon's is at Vanagon.com's mailing list. Its a good list, but it's email based and tends to clog up my inbox even more. _________________ My Art:

Indeed, not nearly so much traffic in here...
Vanagons seem to have the same loose/bad connection problems that all VW's do as they get older. The problem is that there are 100 times the connectors & circuits to trace through...I'm pretty unhappy with the Bentley, but it's still one of the best resources for technical information... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

thanks guys. i myself have little if any passion for vanagons, for that matter anything that's watercooled. these vehicles are appliances. it's one thing if they vehicle came from the factory without a gas gauge. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

yep - I can understand that, especially with your impressive collection...
The vanagons are a lot more comfortable on the road trips than the splitties, though...but not nearly as fun to work on...
I wonder what people will be saying about them in another 30 years? _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!
