Hi Forum,
I am getting a set of mats for my Nov 58 GRAPHITE SILVER convertible from John. I asked him if he could make them color right for that year and car color. He sent me the following answer:

Sounds good!
Do you know the mats right color for a November 1958 Graphite Silver convertible?
Alejandro
No, that may be a good question for the forum.
Here is the link to the colors, it's a PDF:

I never seen a mat myself! Checking the link he sent, would anybody that know please let us know what will be the closest color?
Thank you!

Correct color for the rubber mats of a Graphite Silver Cabriolet is "beige" - which strangely looks more like olive green than beige. Out of those IPI colors, "Maplewood" is kinda close, but not really. However, you can always paint the mats with SEM Color Coat flexible paint #15723 "Monterey," which is an exact match for the original "beige" rubber color.

Hi Dave,
I just got the mat set from John, they are very nice but the color is too brown.
I just bought a can of the SEM "Monterey" color and it is kind of dark.
You said that this is an exact match. Do you have a set of original mats?
Or how were you able to compare the SEM color with the original color?
Thanks! |

Original mats on my 22,000 original mile Brilliant Red coupe, which had been in storage since 1963 and garaged every day prior to that (hence the mats hadn't been faded but were in excellent condition). I did some spray-outs of the SEM "Monterey" on a sample mat, and confirmed an exact match. _________________ David Ruby

Thank you for your information!
I painted John's mats with the Monterey SEM can and they look great! |
