Sounds good. I'd say adapters are bad and Chinese-made imitation Porsche wheels are worse.
Learning about running a different bolt pattern and what fits would be cool.

ive also heard that some people use 944 hubs but really cant find to much information for a direct bolt on. but that would be something you are talking about. I know some people do that when they switch to 944 rear brakes.
any body out there have done this? or have a link to doing so? |

Thanks for the info. I have a 72 hightop that needs new tires and I want to go 15's for added stability. I bought a set of mercedes wheels that were advertised as a "direct fit" but are totally not and I can't find the correct hardware anywhere. The guy who sold them to me is a stand up sorta dude and said he'd take them back if I can't use them so I'm thinking of going this route w/ the 15x6 AE fuchs I picked up at bugorama a couple years ago. I've got machine shop access and rudimentary skills. Where does one find the "Drill guide cut on water jet" mentioned in the link? Could I do w/o this w/ careful measuring? How difficult is it to be exact enough for this project?

Me and my gal went for a road trip down highway one, and were eating at Camelot Fish & Chips and then went to safe way, on our way out to the freeway, I seen this hightop parked right across the street, so I went over and parked next to it and snapped a photo. I waited outside for a few minutes hoping I'd get a chance to talk, but you never came. Anyway, if thats you, then nice bus  |

Sweet dude! Yeah, It was parked at the tire shop for the day getting new shocks and the wheels from my '71 swapped onto it for an upcoming camping trip (they had the vanco tires on it) as well as having the tire shop guys work on fitting the mercedes rims. Sick bus, I was hoping to find a '71 myself when I was shopping for mine but this one just had my name on it. What is that high top? I've never seen one like it before? By the way, I'm drinking Smithwick's right now, Camelot is the only other place I've ever seen that stuff until Safeway started carrying it recently.

I have 944 spindles for the front. Will run 944 vented rotor and wilwood 4 piston calipers. Rear setup is from oldspeed. 944 rear discs with drum in a disc ebrake. Redrilled rear hubs and 944 vented rotors. Stock 944 calipers. I allready have the hubs and brackets for the calipers on the front, and have the complete setup minus rotors for the rear. I can't wait to put them on.
Will be running 18x8 Turbo twist wheels with 245/40/18 tires. |

Uhmm. They used drums for 3 years. I thought you just drilled and rolled, could be wrong though. I thought you would know.  |

There isn't one. Even if he converted to late 5x112 drums, in my opinion there isn't enough meat on the drum where you'd have to drill, to drill safely. Have him call Russell at Old Speed and get set up with a 5x130 disc conversion |
