Hello lads and lasses

Can anyone with expertise on this item (spare tire carrier) recommend what would be the smallest, lightest rear swing out (to starboard) spare tire carrier that I could scrounge from the local Pig A Part and that would fit with minimal or no mods. (On the back naturally)

I don't carry bicycles, tricycles, baby carts, golf carts or shopping carts, I have 4 wheels on the van
I don't carry highly explosive flammable toxic planet killing (ouaaaf ouaaf) gas in jerry cans. Rolling Eyes
I have a better solution shhhhhh Cool
I don't carry a Port-A-John
I am not planning a Paris-Dakar

I just need to get that spare wheel out from the inside of the van

I shall be most grateful for all constructive responses Smile

Thank you Very Happy thank you Very Happy thank you Very Happy

Just use the same carrier that the VW Bus uses on the front of the van and attach it to your hatch. It just bolts throught the sheet metal. I can't imagine anything lighter.

Yes, thanks PDX, that's a great way to do it, if it were not for the problem of keeping the hatch up (Yes, I saw the plastic pipe trick) and also figure as to whether my little exotic and cherished spouse can (easily, I doubt) lift this assembly when she wants to retrieve the...... crockpot ..... from the boot (Yes she keeps it in the back, not on the front seat)

It is actually an excellent idea that I shall investigate further though I am afraid the bay windows after so many years have simply vanished from the Pig A Part and I shall revert to the usual suspects.

Thank you very much ... Very Happy Very Happy

Pathfinder cariers are solid and great for adding extras, but they weigh a ton! That's great for me, but doesn't sound like what you want for this van. Sad

When researching the pop top shock kit with Jackbombay, I came across a site that sells the hydraulic cylinders for fairly cheap. I bet you could get stronger struts with the same dimensions to help lift the rear hatch if the tire were attached. I'll look up the link and post it.
