|
|
I have found that my intake S-boot is cracked and needs replaced. My Vanagon is an '82 2.0L air cooled. I've dug around on some of the vendor sites around here however I've only come across boots for the Type II 75-79 buses. Where's the best replacement?
TIA,
Pete |

Intake Air Boot, 75-79 FI Type 1s Part #: FSI0020
Price: $ 39.95
This "S" shaped rubber intake boot often tears or cracks, and leaves you with a car that will start then stall (no idle). If it's torn, BUY A NEW ONE WHILE THEY ARE STILL AVAILABLE. This fits beetles, and Superbeetles, not T-4 engines.

If you can't find a new one repair what ya got. I read around here somewhere that "Shoe-goo" does well. I used it on a large crack in my air intake boot. So far it's holding up good and you don't even notice it unless you look closely. To be fair I haven't gotten any long trips on it yet. But after all it's rubber cement on rubber... |

You are not going to find a new one. You will only be able to get a used one. Shoe Goo will work. I don't recommend using RTV. The shoe goo is a more permanent repair. _________________ 1982 Westy, 1974 412 Variant... Yes, Aircooled's are great! Mighty Art, this is the part number from ETKA 071 012 967 I came across this thread searching. I recall reading that someone did find a source for the intake boots on the Air Cooled Vanagons. We have one in the shop that has been fixed many times. Anyone? Thank you. _________________ ☮️ |

I just got one from AirHead Parts
(heard about from a thread but couldn't remember which one)
Here's a link to part
http://www.airheadparts.com/vintage-vw-parts/new-this-month/intake-sleeve-elbow-fi-071129967
It's very nice quality, fit nice and I'm very happy
Not a bad price for a new part
I do have a couple used ones available but why would you bother for a new one at this price _________________ "The floggings will continue until morale improves"

They are great. I have two that I had been nursing along and I am very glad to have the new one. I found that as much as I tried to fix the old ones they still kept leaking after a while (new cracks) I think the new ones are made from a better rubber than the originals. I am glad someone was nice enough to get them re-manufactured for us. _________________ 1982 Westy, 1974 412 Variant... Yes, Aircooled's are great!
