|
|
My steering column can move up and down an inch or so. I've read that the spring is there to compress during an accident but mine doesn't seem quite right. In the Bentley it looks like there is a cover over this large gap but I don't remember taking one off. Am I missing something?
pushed all the way in
(I think my auto focus is broken on my old ass camera sorry bout that)
Pulled all the way out in this pic. That pin shown above slides in a certain spot right, felt like it did? But I am able to pull the steering wheel out a little again, any ideas? |

There should only be a 1/8" Gap. You have 1-2" Gap. Better take it apart and fix it! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I take it that is not a stock steering wheel?
I would be looking at the bolt or the coupler down at the steering box.
If your coupler is bad, DO NOT replace it with a urethane one. A couple of the off road guys have had the urethane ones break.

Russ - You are correct, it is not the original steering wheel, came with the car this way when I bought it. I didn't think it had any bearing on this area of the column though.
I replaced the old coupler with an original "braided" black rubber one from CIP1, it's not the cheapy or the urethane. I don't see how the shaft into the steering box is moving, everything is tight. I was thinking that just the wheel/hub portion was moving.
I'll check on it more when I get home. Thanks! |

The .pdf Catalog at ISPWest has a nice parts list of the entire car, I printed out just the Type III section and refer to it a lot. It's about 40 pages. _________________ '67 Granda Red Squareback - just started project May 2010!

Checked it out a little more and the clamp/flange that holds onto the shaft on one end and the coupler in the other wasn't tightened enough. She is now!
Thanks for the help |
