June 68 Manx restoration

Can you please give me the exact sizes of this rear bumper. I own a authentic Meyers Manx (chassis 1966, body 1968 by B.F. Meyers & Co.) and want that rear bumper to.

The seats are done! I wanted a few more pleats than the one in the pic's. I'm very happy with what my upholstry guy did.

The covers are just loosly sitting on the seats for this pic, I should have them on for good tomorrow.

Man, what a great looking Manx. So good to see somebody daring to restore a buggy to be of 60's vintage. And being disciplined enough to do it 100%. It's such a beautiful sculpture in it's most minimal state.

It's also good to see some of the rollcage populous giving it many compliments. Hopefully it might start a wave of period correct restorations....maybe

Thanks guys for all the kind words, it's been fun building it and I had a blast at Sacramento with it. Big thanks to Bob for being so kind to donate a beautiful pair of Manx plate frames. It finishes it of perfectly!

It won a third place at the show and I'm pleased. I'm now in la awaiting the vw classic weekend. Hope to see and meet more of you.

I saw it at Sacramento, and like all of Geoff's cars before this one, it stopped me dead in my tracks. Geoff, when you see Bruce and Winnie meyers, please remember to bow, and say "WE'RE NOT WORTHY !! WE'RE NOT WORTHY!!" Bruce will scowl, Winnie will laugh, and Bruce will probably launch into the story of how that came about.... it's safe for work and kids etc, so no worries...
Get a photo of Bruce in your car, that will be a photo for the ages. I have one somewhere of him in my original Apricot Metalflake Manx, and to me, it's priceless.

Sat was a great day, spent the afternoon at west coast metric as Lorenzo was hosting a party for NORA off road racers and many legends were there. I got to chat with Bruce Meyers again and show him the finished product... And sign it of course!

I have really enjoyed reading your thread and watching your amazing job on your Manx restoration Geoff. Cool

What I did not know before, but have learn from your thread and some of the old threads on this forum. Was the amount and type of Meyers Manx supplied optional items available for the Manx. Since our early 1967 Manx has alot of items already mentioned. My question is where can I find info and pictures on Meyers Manx supplied optional equipment?
To see what is and isn't. Any help will be much appreciated.

BL3Manx... some that I am interested to see if they are in the catalog would be these.
Engine skidplate and if there was a front Manx skidplate available?
The Sidewinder muffler for the time period.
Plywood backseat cutout.
Optional windshield height modifications. Our Manxes windshield is is 4 inches taller than stock and from the looks of it. It appears to have been done at Meyers Manx as the bottom seal is correct for a Manx of that period and does not appear to have been redone. Also the 4 inch extensions plus the welding at the bottom of the windshield frame are extremely clean and of the exact same material and color as the rest of the frame.
Also the steel wheels. On ours the back wheels are a three piece welded together 11 inch wide wheel and the front steel wheels are 7.35 inches wide.
I was going to ask about the chrome individual turn brakes. But I think one of Geoff's catalog pages showed the Meyers ones as not chrome plated.

The chrome turn brake is listed under the painted one as Part #147.

The plywood backseat cut out was part of the Meyers Manx B kit. Its in the picture.

Meyers bought their widened rims from Tiny Thompson who made the Burro buggy in Santa Ana. Here are sizes Meyers carried.

Bruce invented the extruded aluminum windshield frame with the slot in front for mounting the convertible top. He designed and worked with the company to make the tooling. Its one of his big regrets he didn't patent it.

There was just one company making the frames. If it was made by them, I don't think there would have been any welds, they would have just used a longer piece of extrusion.

The early 67 windshield bottom seal was different than the later/current version. The early seal was a piece of aluminum angle stock and a flat strip of rubber which went between the windshield frame and the hood. The later seal was/is just the H shaped rubber.

There was no front skid plate sold by Meyers. These are the catalog pictures of the sidewinder and engine skid plate.
