Hey y'all!!

I finally thought it was time I posted my bug here!

My first aircooled vw, and first car full stop. A '67 euro bug!

I bought it in the UK even though I now live in France, and drove it 800 miles back home only 2 weeks after getting my 'accompanied' licence at 16 years old!!! The trip back went very well, no real problems apart from a squealy wheel bearing, one wiper broken (and of course, it was raining!) and an overtightened handbrake!

I'm 17 now, I've had the car for 7 months, so some things have changed. I'm a huge fan of original cal-look, but in a bid not to devalue my car too much I'm keeping it more simple, not dechromed or anything, just some matt black t-bars, no chrome on the running boards and a dechromed dash (not me)
It's also lowered on 2 litre porsche 914 alloys (replicas) and a load of other more subtle mods, indicators in the headlights instead of on the wings, '68 doors, don't know why, bought it like that and a few other things like the exhaust.

First of all I raised the back up, scraping isn't really my thing, I changed the pos scat shifter for an go hurst, much better! and sorted out all minor scratches and details.

The bigger works have only just begun with a bit of work on the engine. It wasn't running too great, so hauled it out and found the nuts for the heads all trashed and weren't holding. So I've sandblasted the heads, got new nuts, all new exhaust gaskets cos it was blowing and while it's out I'm doing a lot of repainting and tidying up!

Here's how I got it and the trip back

I'm going for a full black look with the engine, everything going black apart from the carb, I don't want to have to dismantle it Sad

Thanks!!

I've been wanting to lower the front a bit more for a while, the problem is my driveway, and it's likely to scrape, I think 1 inch lower at the front would be ok Smile

I received my new steering wheel earlier today and fitted the boss kit, then took a pretty picture Smile

And I spent all morning paintstripping the firewall behind the engine back to 43 year old og paint. I was rather surprised by the condition too, and no rust in sight!!!
I've still got a bit more cleaning up to do, but it's nearly there, then ready for paint and it will be covered up in savanna beige.

I got all the rest of the parts for reassembling my engine, so I may well start that tomorrow Very Happy

Got the engine in yesterday morning, took about 3 hours after getting it jammed on the inner wing that's all bent out of shape. So that was a chance for me to repair something like Jeremy Clarkson would!!
With a hammer Very Happy

Anyway, I nearly got it all back together apart from a few bits like the fan shroud, 2 pieces of tinware, the generator and the carburettor.

I'm really pleased how the whole things looking Smile

Thanks guys, since you seem to like it here's a few more pics, and it's starting to change a little bit. I was fed up with my aluminum trim down the sides and hood, so the side ones have been repainted in black, it has virtually the same gloss/satin effect as the fender rubbers and imo it looks really cool. The hood trim has been deleted to take it more back to stock, as it's a euro '67 standard model it shouldn't have chrome on the hood. I'm now just waiting for a good opportunity to repaint it.

A couple of pics from it's first big trip out since engine rebuild.

Then a couple of the black trim.

Hope you still like it with the black, I guess it will be a little bit more controversial.
