On the bottom tin, there are 40hp and 1500cc versions. They look almost the same but the widths are different.

Someone recent asked about a '67 engine photo.

Here's a good example from a low mileage Bus:

Brian,
Is the bottom one smooth, were the other one has indentations?

Are there any pictures of where and how that preheat hose is routed and the heater box it attaches to?

Ghias got them too, but I don't know when they switched to the spin-on.

i'm sure RickC has more pics/info of this set up.

Whats with the 1500 sp and the 36hp fan shroud?

it's a stale air 40hp shroud. the engine is a later engine, tinned up to look like a '61 stale 40. surely you have seen this bus in person by now and have talked to rick about it, no?

Bus? Isn't that a single cab? Where is the gas tank?

Yep, looks like a single cab to me. A high-roof Aussie dusty conditions single cab. Note the duct forward of the fan shroud. This was fed from the extra set of vents above the cab then routed through the treasure chest.

Hey Ev, it looks like you have overlapped the dates on the wing nut style and skrew on style on the 36hp

Quote:
55-59 36hp engines use the standard Bus/Ghia air cleaner:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=265740
(Seen on far left)
52-56 36hp Trucks and Buses had a wing nut on the bottom of the air cleaner. This was used until Chassis # 203163 in Sept. 1956.

The way I have that worded is confusing so I will correct it.

Our low mile Jan 26th 56 Single cab has a spin on not a wing nut, and our December 56 single cab came with a wing nut. I think it's much earlier than Sept.

I'm working on a type1 manual for the oacdp and noticed it had a lot of info about air cleaner part numbers including some split bus models. I thought I'd mention it here for those looking for specific air cleaner parts. The shear number of Connecting Parts is pretty amazing:

This came with my bus and is original. It isn't a cyclone but it is for dusty areas. I am keeping it for the 1600 dp.
Cheers

That looks like a air cleaner from a Thing.

Look for a later style one like maybe a '62-63 is model like the one above. I remember there being a difference in the height of the snouts on the earlier air cleaner tubes .

Should there be a hose from the air cleaner to the oil filler neck?
