First drives were successful. Jim came by and gave me a hand finishing the sunroof, headliner and a bunch of other finishing up and I took her about 100km tonight and she didn't miss a beat.

Most people would cringe if they saw the condition that bus was in when you got it.
You're one hell of a metalworker, & your bus turned out awesome.
Congrats man, can't wait to read about your next restoration project! Wink

Further investigation, meaning removing the rear strip in that picture, the material underneath was black. I believe that piece was just faded black. I thought about using a blue cover, but in the end black was the unanimous choice.

The Safari's are Creative Engineering.

Took the old girl in for an alignment this morning. A couple of my friends, one of which owns a 57' Kombi, work at one of the VW dealers, so it seemed like a logical choice. Picked it up and lunch and she drives like a dream. A very loud dream... Laughing

On the list tonight and tomorrow night
-Stereo
-Left front kick panel
-Spare tire tray and spare tire
-Jet carbs
-Tool kit and spare parts
-Aim headlights
-Center caps
-Wire up the tail lights as brake lights
-Bolt down the rear seat
-Battery strap and cover
-Pick Trevor up from the airport

This has been an exciting thread to watch, congratulations on your hard work concept, it looks fantastic.

I started an engine rebuild on my T3 about the exact same time you started your bus with the goal of rolling it to the classic myself. Even though the rebuilt engine is in and is all ready to be broken-in, I don't have the time (or help) to get it broken-in and get the preliminary 300 miles on it before I can do heavy freeway driving down the classic. So I was pretty bummed until I saw this thread today, but now I just feel lazy Smile.

Lookin good dude, I'll try to track you down at the classic... I'll be in my honda.
