What is it with those oil senders? After my maiden voyage to Regina and back I had to replace mine in the Bug.
Awesome pics. Hope to see it at the show in Calgary. _________________ 61 Type 1 Sedan |

VIP parking at the transporter museum
We needed to change some tires before the trip home, as the rears were almost gone from toe-in. I knew from the alignment guy that this might be a problem, but did not have time to correct the issue before leaving. George was happy to give us a hand Monday morning. Thanks again!
This was just from the way down, they were new when we left.
Gassed up, and back on the road. We decided to take the more scenic HWY 101. It turned out to be a bit of a nightmare, so we actually headed back the way we came loosing a few hours in the process. Oh well, we got some decent ocean shots, just after Malibu beach.
Back on the road. Spent the night in Mesquite, NV. Kind of an old peoples watered-down version of Vegas. Lots of pastel colors and soft food.
More fun with iPhone apps. Speedometer.
Cruising speed roughly 74-75MPH
Damn, chicks just won't leave me alone.
Top speed. I'm sure she had a bit more in her. 84MPH.
Sound level 95 DB
Beaver, Utah.
Montana. The start of the storm that lasted until we got home.
Well, that's basically it.
My goal behind this whole build was to make it to California and back in an old aircooled VW, and I decided last October that this would be the most challenging one I could build. I've tried to make the trip twice in the past, once in a 59 single cab and in 08' in my 60' 23 window but both of those attempts somehow had involvement from a tow-truck .
By the time we got home, we were all soaking wet, Roberta's nose was full of rock-chips and a scuff mark underneath from a tire shuck somewhere in the desert, and Trevo and I might need some chiropractic help. All part of actually driving the bus.
I can't thank everyone enough who helped me along the way, and if I didn't mention you here, you certainly know who you are. It was awesome to meet some of the people who read along with the build, and provided comments along the way. I hope everyone enjoyed this as much as I did.
