I wonder if there is a specific type of ATF you're supposed to use? I imagine they are all pretty similar so its doubtful that one would dissolve in acetone and another wouldn't, but I suppose it is possible.

I've had those same thoughts. I used a Dexron/Mercon because it is what I had on hand. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone uses a different version with acetone and gets it to mix.

I'll second the Justice Brother's JB80, definitely the best I've used.

Any links to that article?

Beyond the reprinting of the original "data" in Farm Show magazine, no. Not being a machinist, I'm not familiar with Machinist's Workshop.

I did find reference to what I think is the original source http://www.homeshopmachinist.net/articleindex:
Testing Different Types of Penetrating Oils
    Bender, Lloyd
    Subject: Cutting Fluids
    Issue: Vol. 20 No. 2 Apr-May 2007
Perhaps someone out there has the original or perhaps it available in a library somewhere.

I used acetone from the paint section in the hardware store, metal can, childproof cap. Haven't had my fingernails done in a while. Glad to hear yours mixed. What ATF and what acetone did you use?

One of the parts of the paint reducer might very well be an emulsifier. Please report back how the mix works on corroded fasteners. I might well give it another shot if I have a reasonable assurance of success.
