This is Exmoor, England. A little hide-away that we have found where the boys can chop wood and have a fire. Happy syncro memories.

Darby Creek, Idaho. A mostly unnecessary river crossing.
Has anyone seen the Vanagons in the WILDERNESS thread? I'd swear it was around here someplace. I know some of you think I'm uptight for pointing it out every once in a while, but what you don't see are the PMs of support and agreement I when I do. My favorite shots of this thread are those of Vanagons that are off the beaten path in the context of real Wilderness. But I guess there are probably dozens of definitions of wilderness.

Well if you really want wilderness, a creek crossing isn't it. Something like this is-
I am all up for people using their vans and posting pictures so that I can be envious enough to get off my butt and get one of the vanagons out on the road.
Keep on posting the pictures! |

Went to my favorite state park for a few days. I was able to get the
site that I have reserved for my Aug trip there. I had not stayed at the site before
and I wanted to see if the Westy could be parked level and what the
view would be.
Cobscook Bay is a really nice campground, with large well spaced sites.
The only drawback is the Vault Toilets, that's PC speak for out houses.
You really need to bring stogies with you when making a trip to the can.
Other than that it's clean and reasonably priced, makes for an inexpensive
vacation.
I got to try out my Fathers' day gift, the 12v christmas lights my wife
bought me. They work really well, these lights are the bright white LED's.
There are two strings of lights in the pic, they don't quite reach completely
around the awning but two was plenty. Though they didn't give off enough
light that you could read by they did provide enough light to see everything
clearly.
My view.

Here are some pics from my recent road trip to Yellowstone and several other places. I have many more pics I may post later.
Here is a Grizzly Bear we saw crossing the road in Grand Tetons National Park. The Rangers had to stop traffic for him to cross and we were right in front.

Found this nice little spot a couple of years ago at the end of an easy jeep trail while doing some recon for future camping. Decided to give it a try this past weekend.
Someone went to great lengths to build this awesome fire pit. It had two separate chambers for baking and smoking meat, I'm guessing.

Here are a few from our last road trip. After Telluride, we went North through Yellowstone and home on I-90. We ended up not camping in Yellowstone. We only had one day and we didn't really want to waste it looking for a campsite.
This is from the Flaming Gorge in Northeastern Utah. You can camp anywhere along the lake so we just found a dirt road and followed it down...
Our next stop was in the Tetons for a night. This is from the Gros ventre campground. It's a ginormous campground but we were right on an end with lot's of wildlife out in the meadow in front of us...
Our last night of camping was in the national forest ouside of Kellogg Idaho. We found a national forest road leading up to a small lake about 10 miles in. We got some serious stink eye the next morning when we realized that everyone else up there rode up in ATV's towing their camping gear! I had my fingers crossed the whole way that the coolant hose that I wrapped the crap out of with gorilla tape wouldn't burst (but that's another story!).
And Sam fishing at the lake (edit: with no vanagon in the pic so deleted by the moderators. Thanks Glenn!)... _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

Now that's looks like fun!
Since I don't see a motor running or the van in motion I assume that it is stuck. |
Very stuck. Made it through the opposite direction the first time, but picked a bad line on the way back. Somehow managed to seize the motor. Hiked about a mile in the rain giving my wife piggy back rides along the way at the really mucky spots. Here is the stream crossing we ran shortly before getting stuck.
Water came up to the bottom of the windscreen of the van when we splashed in. I was a little concerned when water started coming in through the dash, but we made it across just fine. _________________ 86 Vanagon Syncro |
