Showing that Vanagon here is not free advertising, and you didn't see what they did to the inside.
The side of that van reminds me of the back of this to like purplepeopleeater said:
Guess they had to hack a lot to get the flux capacitor in there right.
To bad they can't go back in time and nix the idea of a "coffee van". |

I purchased my syncro from a guy in Arizona about 4 years ago. He had built his own airplane which he flew down to Mexico all the time. My ailing bumper end cap finally fell off and this is what I found inside.
Far from a hack, I think this type of repair is inspiring. Look at all the hand installed aluminum rivets. All this work for a relatively cheap plastic part.
I've found a number of little repairs like this, all using aluminum sheet, rivets and wire. _________________ '87 Syncro Westfakia, 1.9TD ADE (AAZish), 068 Injection Pump, K03 turbo, 2.5" exhaust, Mercedes nozzles, SAAB Blackstone charge-cooler w/ 800cfm fan, Micro-1000 EGT sensor pre-turbo, boost at about 13psi, 235/70/16 with stock gearing |

That kind of fix always makes me wonder what people were thinking?
Take all that time to rig up a piece of plastic with rivets and wire.
It's still all cracked, it looks solid, but it will fall apart eventually like it did.
The WTF comes in when he could have gotten a new one for $10.00

Probably less when he took all the time to fix it.
I have known people who would spend more time and effort on a rigged substandard repair, then actually trying to find the right part in the first place. |

Art Linkletter once said (many times) "people are funny", perhaps "people are weird" would be more accurate! _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...
