This was out in the Forest, at least the road was a loop, nice drive.
This was scary.
East of the St. Johns river, we drove about 10 miles on an un-named dirt road to this canoe launch access road, then 4 miles down this 2track road thru swamps, no way to turn around, dark skies/storms imminent, if we broke down we'd have to be air-lifted out, I was NOT comfortable, and when we got to the canoe launch it was gated and locked !?!, but at least there was room to turn around (photo), I was very happy to get out, the Bus did great, reliable as rocks, fortunately the storm waited until we got back to the dirt road, and then the skies opened up, serious lightning, hard rain and strong winds. Too much fun.

Road trip to S.Oregon for graduation ceremonies. We take a stop over to fish the Williamson River and come to the Oux Kanee Overlook.
further on some more outcrops
a meadow in the high desert forest
heading back to pavement, the hard pack sand road was bucket drag smoothed the last mile. so nice

Loading up the kayaks for a day on the river. Only complaint about having a high-top is that it is neigh impossible to put anything on the roof that is bigger than the luggage area.

Nah, ya just have to be creative,
Here you can see my Friend Kevin's hightop with his kayak on the top, while taking the turns on the annual VWs at The Glen event here in NY each fall.
and as an fyi it's not a slow pace lap parade, we get to go well about as fast as a VW camper CAN go on the road course. which can be harrowing yet loads of fun..

No really "wilderness" but had the bus out camping last weekend up at Happers Ferry, WV. Bus did awesome and the entire family really enjoyed it. First time we've actually slept in it.

About 2000' above Downieville, CA. 6 or 8 miles of steep, narrow, rutted, twisty dirt road w/ serious cliff drops on one side most of the way.
Had no idea what I was getting into but she handled it like a champ!
Rode the bikes back down into town on some crazy trails and retrieved the bus w/ another vehicle later.
Back in town some guy was like "It's a shame those things don't handle offroad, huh?" I was like , "yeah".
And a good time was had by all.

What happened? Why did you have to retrieve your bus with another vehicle?

Because I couldn't fit the bus in my CamelBak . Mountain bike shuttle runs, the only way to fly! I'm planning on going back in 2 weeks and bringing along my 1970 Suzuki TC90 2 stroke. Leave the moto in town and ride it back up to retrieve the shuttle vehicle. Any thoughts on strapping one of those to the outside of the bus? _________________ 62 Single Cab

Gotcha! I thought maybe your bus broke down and you had to tow it out. |

Some photos from my last road trip. San Francisco to British Colombia, 4200 miles. The only time I got out the tools was for a scheduled value adjustment.
Might be time for a GPS, no idea where I was when I took this.
Logging roads are fun, but a little risky 1200 miles from home.
Stopped here for dinner and watched the storm roll down the valley.
Had to cut this one down, needed fire wood for the night.
Best street camping spot in California. _________________ Tools of the Professional Drifter;
