Ok so I am finally finished with my 85 Westie top end rebuild. A LOT OF work..
So I drove it for the first time in 2 years 2 months and let me tell you... It was FANTASTIC.
Thanks to all who helped along the way seriously you guys are awesome.
So now I have to ask: Does anyone have the Brown Westfalia stickers for the pop-top? I have the grey ones that I'd be willing to trade (just thought I'd throw it out there) _________________ 85 Westfalia

Way to go! I was down for 8 months doing the top end. I know the feeling you have.
Congratulations on being mobile again!
We're heading to Blissfest and then the Canadian shore of Lake Superior this week. I love having a good motor again. |

Thanks all. Yeah determination for sure. I literally started the rebuild 3 weeks ago and managed to finish today.
I bought the van... it died... and life got in the way of me being able to fix it. But I can tell you this much I am HAPPY as hell to be driving it! WOOT WOOT _________________ 85 Westfalia

You just haven't found the next upgrade/tweak/mod yet!
Does it feel good to be done? |

Thanks for the links. I know where to buy them, I just figured I would see if anyone had any to trade. I bought the grey ones a few years ago, and no longer have the van for those thought maybe someone might be in my boat and stuck with brown ones
As for the DONE.. Done with engine for now, Ohh this baby needs a paint job, having lived its whole life in the Arizona desert--the clear coat is peeling off.
So that is the next step hopefully end of the month first part of August. _________________ 85 Westfalia

I think that's what I love so much about Vanagons and Land Rovers... It's a continuous project that can be upgraded to the hilt, and always needs fixing so I never get bored with them _________________ 85 Westfalia

Any thoughts on how much a paint job will cost? I am tossing around the idea of paint, but haven't taken it in to see if it is anywhere in my price range. _________________ 1982 Vanagon Diesel

North of Superior. Beautiful up there. I remember driving through there once in April going from 70 degrees to a snow storm in the same day. Gotta love it. _________________ 1984 Vanagon GL

Reyes: Im think around 2K for what I want. The cost of paint has gone up quite a bit. I have a friend who owns a paint shop in Virginia and he has the ability to bake it on like a factory job. But if you shop around you can get good deals on paint.
I will post pics when I get the chance _________________ 85 Westfalia

I know how happy you are! Mine was down for 2 years doing the VR6 conversion. Then as soon as I got it on the road I immediately grenaded the stock transmission. So I pulled it out and saved up for 6 months and had german transaxle of america build mine so that it could handle all the horsepower and torque.
In the last 3 years it has been down for more than 2 1/2 years! |
