|
|
Hey guys i have a questions about the final drive seals on my 68. I ordered some new seals for it, but of course were the wrong size, so i ordered another set which is also were the wrong size. I have the old seal out and the dimensions are 42 X 72 X 10. Is this a 68 year only seal? If so where is the best place to get it fast. Now with the delay in waiting for parts i'm cutting it close with a roadtrip on sunday. Also, do i need these specific dimensions?
Thanks for the advice. _________________ 68' Westy Weekender

The 68 bus trany is a one year only thing. The seals are one year only so you can get them from Weddle thay have them in stock. thats where I get mine. Thay are the same seal thay use in there 091 heavy duty diff covers. 805-562-8600 part # 9210 _________________ where its cold and snowy |

From what I understand you can identify a 1968 one year only transmission by whether or not it has acorn nuts or philips head retainers under the drive flanges. Acorn = 1968. This pick is of a 1969-1971 tranny.

well i definitely have a 68 year only trans, now i just need to track down the seals i called Weddle twice with no avail. Has anyone had any luck with their local parts suppliers? The seal the rancho sent me have the same shaft diameter, but the overall diameter (the part that seats in the trans is too small), but i was wondering if anyone has ever used a different sized seal with any luck? _________________ 68' Westy Weekender

Thats just one of the difference's with that trany. Iam rebuilding one right now for my 68 SC. I would put a later one in it but I have had alot of new 68 only parts in stock for ever and this trany is in great shape. I even had to make myself a 68 only jig to set up the shift forks I most likely won't use it again anytime soon. _________________ where its cold and snowy |
