Clearcoating over vinyl decals? That question may cause some people to lose their breakfast, but is it possible? Specifically a racing stripe. |

The vinyl decals have a life span, if they survive the solvents in the paint, it'll probably extend their life quite a bit. You get it all the time on motorcycles now-a-days. Wanted to remove all the decals from my Star... turned out they were cleared in. Looked good for years, but had to look at them.. _________________ 77 super convertible |

I did my jet boat paintjob,And the first question I asked was, can I spray clear over 1/8 pinstrip tape, they said yes, the paintjob said no,
I think a longer decal would be easier, but colored pinstripe tape, I wouldnt, I think it was the sharpe curves the clear didnt like,?

I see all kinds of cleared decals all the time. Don't know if its special. Like I said; go down to your local moto dealer.
It would suck bawls if you sprayed a large decal and it bubbled up the second it dried because of failed adhesive and expanding vinyl. Could always get a decal and apply it to scrap and see what you think of it. _________________ 77 super convertible |
