Saw someone with a dark gray Westy Syncro East bound on 80 by Vacaville Saturday morning. Bikes on the back racks, covered pack on the luggage rack. Also some kind of motor swap. Couldn't tell if it was a Subie or something else.
Nice van & totally decked out.
I was in the wife's car, so no brotherly love exchanged.

Saw a beautifully equipped gray Westy towing a color-matched trailer with NC plates and a 2.5 GT Subaru decal on the rear hatch, headed SE on C-470 through Lakewood, CO. Pulled up next to him right before I exited the highway at Alameda Ave.
We were able to exchange some brotherly love with a wave and a big thumbs up.
He had among other nice things:
15" Rhein Wheels, with spare mounted on a rear tire carrier.
Dark tinted windows all around.
Nice two tone gray paint
GPS
A/C must have been blowing cold, all the windows were up in 85 degree heat.
My wife says: "Why can't our Vanagon look like that?" to which I reply, "Just give me about $5,000 and I will make it look like that."
Our 1989 Carat is in a very slow body smoothing operation, then a paint job.
Always great to see other Vanagons around, especially one so nice and from so far away. _________________ Andy

Saw an orange/white Westfalia Bus(it was a 70's model) which had just come back from a North American tour. I love those slatted windows. Also saw a black and white and another color in a lot that are pretty bare from parting out. I want to get over to see them but will need heavy shoes and do some climbing and dodging as they are locked in by other vehicles. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Yesterday I left work at lunchtime for a change and took a little drive to clear my head. I soon spotted a white Westy with a woman driver. Did a U and followed to a nearby gas station. This turns out to be a van I'd seen before, one with Tennessee plates. We had a nice chat about Westies (my '87 was at home and I was in the Civic), and she simply loves hers. They bought it new in '91 and have been all over the U.S. and Canada in it. That made my day. |

Driving southbound on I-95 in Maine, I do believe I saw this Westy.
While in Florida and attending the Lakeland VW show in March, I met the owners
of this Blue Westy. They are from Onterio and were on vacation
While I was driving northbound I saw what looks exactly like
their van with trailer and bikes in the Southbaound lane. Enroute
to another camping vacation I suspect?
Saw this Vanagon on Sunday evening.

I think that's garret. He's got a brand new Bostig kit to put in that syncro too...
I saw a nice late model white westy travelling thru austin about a month or so ago. It was an older couple driving it as traffic zoomed past. It had Texas plates and looked to have the stock engine. _________________ 89 Bostig powered syncro westy |

They're following me!
Yesterday I saw a nice EV towing a small trailer northbound on I-294, then on the way home, I saw a gray/silver Vanagon Westy in a shop in Buffalo Grove (Buffalo Grove Rd and Lake Cook Rd). Then, still on the way home, another silver EV around the corner from my house! I saw another silver EV again this morning while walking the dog, but I think it was the same one from yesterday. _________________ '85 Westy

Vanagon (circa 1983?) spotted in St. Petersburg, Russia on Monday. Wish I had pix but couldn't pull the trigger fast enough. _________________ 91 Bostig-powered Westy (automatic)

Passed a nice White square-headlights Westy parked roadside in Brighton, Colorado. A pleasant surprise to see one in good shape while puttering about.

Saw a red GL parked across the street from the Jamie Farr LPGA tournament with Illinois plates. i am guessing the owner may be a caddy, it has been there 3 days now. _________________ 86 GL Bostig & 89 Wolfsburg |

Nah, it wasn't garret. i spoke with the guy briefly. It looked like a buddy's old syncro. garret also has that super sweet syncro westy with the tiico 2.0. that beast is super duper cool.

As I've said before, don't get to see many in my neck of the woods. But yesterday I was on 151 on my way to Madison and in the other direction was a nice grey Syncro Westy just loaded down with ladders, kayaks, tires and I don't know what else, late 80s or early 90s. He was flying. Then on our way home, saw a very clean '71 transporter also going in the other direction. I hung out the window waving to both...they ignored me. That's OK, they looked great. |

I saw a nice looking Westy in Redfield, SD Wednesday about 2pm, and then I saw a total of 3 Eurovans on route from Aberdeen SD to Delta OH. All three Eurovans were in the Minneaplois/St Paul area. _________________ 86 GL Bostig & 89 Wolfsburg |

Saw three yesterday, bought front seats, a jump seat and enough material to recover the rear westy seats in matching material. Plus electric mirrors, just hopefully these work better than the flags. _________________ Len
