Have you ever heard of liquid electric tape?
I was turned on to it today at my local air cooled shop. I used it on all the connections on an electrical project today on my Westy, it is awesome stuff. Easy to use, and seems like it will stay on the wires longer than tape.

VR6..is that a gooey tar like substance?? The shop that replaced my O2 sensor placed a dab of a tar like "stuff" on the elecrtical connection and I thought it was a good idea.

Its slipped my mind to ask the mechanic about this stuff until you posted.

Thankx

That is just plasti-dip in a can with a applicator brush. http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Liquid_Tape_-_Electrical_Insulation
Plasti-dip lasts for a long time.

This stuff Im talking about looks and feels like TAR. Its black in color and hasn't dried out in over a year and a half.
Its way different than the dip and coat pliers coating.

The gooey tar stuff is probably urethane. It comes in rolls kinda like tape or you can get it in caulking gun tube. It's very handy stuff.

Been using it for years. Holds up to the elements well.

I've used it in applications where wires are exposed to the elements (like right behind the grill) or where I could not effectively use shrink tubing.
I've found it to work well, but it takes several applications to build up what I felt was a good amount of insulation & it's kind of messy/drippy.

Any idea on a brand name or what the stuff might be called..or where to buy some. FLAPS folks just kinda looked at me like I didn't know what I was talking about.

Sort of confused them when I agreed that I had no idea of what I was talking about and thats why I was asking them Anxious

Try a home center like Home Depot or Lowes. Most of the places I have been to in the northeast have had it right in the electrical department. If that doesn't work out, look in the phone book for "electrical supplies" and call around. It is fairly common stuff and definitely worth having in your tool arsenal.
