I've got the original "Volkswagen" script that attaches to the rear hatch, and the hatch has the holes in it that the script fastens into. However, the script is missing the little dowels on the backside that slide into the holes.

Do you know any good ways to attach the script? Ideally, I'd like a solution that wouldn't leave a mess if I had to take it off again.

glazing mastic bead (the type used for oiled wooden window frames) - works a treat holding the VW insignia on to the front panel of my 72 crossover!

Why wouldn't you just get a new or used emblem that has the correct mounting posts?

Maybe he picked up a used one off Samba classifieds here that had the posts missing, like I did, for a little less money....... Rolling Eyes

I am going to use the two sided tape that they sell at auto parts stores to put on things like front spoilers, cutting it to exact shape with a sharp x-acto. This should seal the holes, also. I like the super glue idea, too.

Hope I helped.

When I bought the bus, it was buried in the included milk crate full of spare parts--just getting around to putting it on 10 years later. I thought I remembered it having one or two pins still on it, but apparently I was mistaken.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Hiya Das,

Excellent job!

It's great to see folks taking what others consider to be trash and making it "live" again. Nice work.

That is kinda cool, isn't it? Cool

I had one of those big blue cheep Harbor Frieght tarps over it when I took the first pic's. It was flapping and generally being a bad boy so I 86'd it half way through.

EDIT- Bookwus, thanks. Appreciate it.

Yep, they're going for around $30--WAY too much for a little piece of aluminum, I think.
Anyway, I soldered the pins in and then used silicon caulking. Worked great!

I did make one in stainless to see how it would look - and it was great. I brazed in small studs so it can be attached to the rear hatch with nuts in the stock location. I did think about making a small run and using a stud gun (stud-sert) in a fixture to attach the stainless studs.

if you use the clear 3M Scotch Clear Mounting Tape #4010, it will definitely be attached. Make sure everything is clean and it wont come off until you want it to.
