This is an open invite to a family BBQ at my house on Aug 21st from noon until whenever. Pot luck, cards, volleyball, softball, bonfire. We will have brats, burgers, soda, lemonade and water. Everyone brings a dish to pass and BYOB. We have 20 acres so plenty of room for camping. There is usually about 5 tent campers or so. Feel free to stop by.

Jeff, I really appreciate the invitation. I will try to make it but am not sure if I can. I love camping with other Westies. |

I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years now. But with the lack of vans in our area I don't know if we could get any to show.
I have had this annual party for 2 years know with a good turn out (60-80) people.
We have a big softball and volleyball game and a bonfire that goes to the AM.
Hope to see a few there.

Thanks for the invite! I'm planning on autocross'ing the 21st, and the Missus is working. The only way we'd be able to come is if we came up pretty late... But I'll run it past the wife, and see what she says.
Thanks! _________________ '85 Westy

Come on Sheesh, nothing wrong with a little road trip!
I just looked at the satellite view of the address link I posted and I can see the infield of the softball field, volleyball court, my parts van and ice shanty.

Sorry to un-stoke ya, but the Missus says no. Something about working all day, and driving all night puts her off the idea. _________________ '85 Westy

Well funny enough I should read this. I'm not from the midwest, but I'm flying back from Europe to Michigan where my van is parked and starting the trek back to Washington state. I fly back the 18th and was planning on starting the drive west on the 21st. After 2 months of being away from my westy and my home country I could really use something like this. Unless a breakdown or something unexpected happens, count me in. _________________ ______________________

A couple of more things.
"a dish to pass" = Bringing a Van is more than enough to pass.
"Aug 21st from noon until whenever"=You can show up days early and leave whenever.
Hope to see ya there' if not next year.

You remember when my road trip started? It's been 4 months ago now I will definitely plan on coming by regardless of the time... I have to drive through Madison anyway, so I'll be pretty damn close. I'm sure it would do good to get it on a hoist... it'll have been sitting for almost 2 months , so I'm hoping and praying she'll get me back to WA without and major breakdowns...
Looking forward to meeting another Vanagon nut _________________ ______________________

A 4 month road trip is pretty amazing.
I wish I had my van years ago before I sold out to the man and started punching the time clock.
Good news is I'll be ready when the kids grow up and I retire. I have multiple engines and other parts sitting on shelves to keep the van going for 50 years.

Looks like at least 1 more van will show. Hopefully I can get a better turnout every year. _________________ --------------------------------------------------------

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the invite.
We don't currently own/drive a VW at this time.
Believe it or not, not all Vanagon drivers read the highly regarded Samba.
I was thinking, there is just enough time to post on the regional craigslists.
I frequently type in "vanagon" for a search. I'm sure there are others that do. Folks in the hinterland (cow counties) crave a low key Vanagon rendezvous and would be eager to join you.
Hope your picnic goes well. There is always a lot of energy in new groups. |
