A month after we bought Vanth, we helped my parents buy a Westy of their own, a brown '85.

When my then-girlfriend (now wife) first heard its waterfowl-like honking horn, she said it sounded like a goose. The name stuck. My parents call her Goosey.

Here are Vanth and Goosey parked side-by-side at the picnic spot where we had our potluck wedding last month.

I think it's almost a requirement to name your van. It becomes a part of the family, really.

Mine is Morris, as in Slo-Mo or Mo-lasses. Though I may have to rename him once I get his Camper Special done.

The best name I've seen here is Shadowfax, a rental on the west coast.

Butters... because when I started cleaning him I realized his color is the same as butter... it kinda looks like a stick of butter on wheels.plus I do kind of like Butters on South park. Smile

We named ours "Ruby"- mostly because of the color- Titian Red. Looking back at the records, the original owners had letter to the PO about their name for the van: "Maria".

Some may see naming vans as somewhat silly, but ours is definitely part of our family.

Seriously true. Maybe I anthropomorphize my van in order to help me cope with the money I spend on it, and in hopes that it will cooperate with me when we go on trips.

I could've had a landscaped yard, a remodeled shower, new flooring in my house, or a number of things instead of my Westy, and all the upgrades to it. For some reason I have a hard time explaining, even to myself, why upgrading what's parked in the driveway is happening before making upgrades in my house. I guess this proves how much I am my father's daughter.

I don't name my vans, but people seem to name them for me. My roommates way back when referred to my '58 Westy as "Magic" after The Who's "Magic Bus." My it talking to my sister last Saturday about the Subaru conversion she dubbed it VDubaru (pronounced V-DOO-bu-roo). Whether or not that will stick is yet to be determined.

Here's a pic she posted on Facebook of my showing off my engine to my little bro last weekend at a family get together:

P.S.: My brother has a nice Eurovan MV that I've borrowed for a trip to the desert and one to Seattle... very nice ride. He and his wife quit their jobs, rented the house, and circumnavigated the continent in it a few years back... the ultimate VW Road Trip!

Hmmph...
I named mine Vinnie, resurrected from the name of an old pick-up I had in Cave Junction 30 years ago.
About 20 of us were living in a carved-out chunk of land nearby and I turned over the truck as canvas to a painter who said he kept having visions of Van Gogh paintings all over my truck.
Came out looking pretty damn nice.
So when I bought this westy, and it was the same base-color as that old truck, it was a flashback. Vinnie! You're back!

now all I need is a painter.....

I named my '83 Frank, then decided that it was a she and not a he, so I threw an E on the end. Franke. I like to think of her as a jolly yet tempermental lesbian with a mullet. Very Happy

Named mine after a horse that my family friends had. "Scout". With the different shades of brown and the white pop top it looked alot like that horse. Wished I had a picture to show the similarities. Wanted to say that my family enjoys naming our vehicles. We have SeaCreature (78 Baywindow), Blue (71 Squareback) Smiley (66 Squareback), White Knight (03 Eurovan), Hero (96 Silverado named as such because it has to go and save the others from time to time), and Gracie our motorhome. The name adds to the character of each vehicle.

We named our 87 Westy GL Manny.

Manny the Manyanagon. The name came to us after he had decided if and when we were going on a trip.
