On another (non-VW) forum I'm on, I've noticed that it warns you when you try to post to a thread that has gone over 3 months without a reply. I think that such an alert or popup could be a good idea here too. It might be a nice reminder especially for newbies who post something they think pertinent for a topic that petered out a long time ago. Or even for older heads like me who sometimes search for something and misread or forget to look at the dates.
If anything it might let them at least say " I know this thread is old, but I thought I'd add this" and not look as foolish as some do.
This is what that warning looks like on the site I was mentioning. Not sure if the exact wording, or if 120 days is best, but thought I'd suggest something like this, if it's possible within our Forums.
