What effect does the distance from top of piston and down to the top ring has on performance vs longivety?

Reason for asking is because my next motor project will be to machine some 90.5 mm mahle pistons so that they will have a dome, and not be flat anymore. This is in order to increase compression in a porsche 912 engine.

1. What is the effect of a shorter top ring land distance, does it increase power in itself?

2. What is the safes minimum recommended on a NA aspiratet engine?

3. What effect does it have on ring life and longivety of the engine?

Anything else that i should consider?

I can get enough compression if i leave about 4 mm top ring land height.
