Got back from a 2-night stay up at a mountain campground near Payson, UT today. The family had a great time, and the Westy performed great up the steep, slow, winding Nebo Loop road now that the power to the radiator fan temp switch is hooked back up. Smile This was our second camping trip in the van so far, and it went much more smoothly now that I've got an aux battery, a guide for the table leg, and more experience with how to use the limited space well.

I previously had a '93 Eurovan Weekender, but the Vanagon ('84 Wolfsburg Camper w/2.5l Subaru) is turning out to be a far superior camping vehicle. The only thing I miss is a functioning air conditioner for the road and the nice stereo I had installed, but I hope to remedy those soon!

Yeah, sorry thread police - sometimes hard to keep straight between wrenching sessions. I've done it myself in the heat of the moment. Please forgive us all, forever.
So, to add to the general confusion, here's my latest contribution:

What I WILL DO with my Westy today:

Drive 'er in the local parade to promote our recently, loosely organized "club":

VW
V anagon
A ssociation of the
N orth
S hore

(North Shore of Lake Superior, that is.) With just 5-6 vans it won't be a huge presence but it should be fun, with our kids throwing candy from the roof racks/pop tops & typical parade carryings-on. (...but I sure hope the rad. fan keeps up while we're crawling along at 1 mph for 90 min or so...)

Wish us luck!

used it as an aux. vehicle for moving grandma's stuff out of storage and distributed to the appropriate people. we had an enclosed trailer for the furniture and some of the boxes, but it was so nice to have my westy available for easy transportation of the large tv, a clock, and lamp. granted, the westy could have taken much more, but it was still nice to have the extra space for "breakables."

On my second trip with Vanna White (my 1990 Vanagon GL) I drove down to Woodstock VT to help crew and pace a girl running the Vermont 100 mile trail run. It rained the whole way down from Montreal, the wipers worked well but I was wishing for AC, man was it hot.

It was dry all weekend in that area and Vanna came in handy as a travelling aid station. Would pop the top at every stop and the inside remained fairly cool. I was also able to pick up my new BD awning and set it up, looks good, now we will have to see how it works in the rain.

The 2.1 L engine handled all of the Vermont hills fairly well, although i think i broke the cruise control...will have to get that looked at.

All in all and excellent weekend of running and camping. Saw several westys on the I89, there was even one behind me at the border crossing back into Canada on Sunday.

Well it was last weekend and me and the kids did an impromptu camping trip to Grand Lake, CO. We left on Saturday at 2pm arrived around 530pm and hit 5 campgrounds before we found an available spot. I tend to do developed campgrounds with my kids, safety! I have three kids and my 5yr old daughter loved the maiden voyage of the upfront cot. I realized when it's warm I need to get some screens for the side windows to keep the bugs out. Never had that problem before. Fun, Fun, Fun!

Drove from Indianapolis to Brown County State Park with a buddy for some mountain biking. Great sunset over the hills and a huge moon out. Lots of Brickyard 400 (NASCAR) traffic on I-65 heading south.

The Westy and I helped the PO move to her new place. She found some things while packing that she said belonged to "Max" (the van's name when hers) and wanted to pass them along, and asked if we could help move some large potted plants. We did and had a nice visit. The three large plants seemed to enjoy the ride and the Westy, which we've not officially renamed, was on its best behavior for the lady who sold it to us.

Insured, got tags and title, paid taxes for a Vanagon that we don't even have yet. Oh man, this could be really bad.....but I hope it's really good! Oh yeah, mounted BFG AT's to my 15x6 Mefro steel wheels too! We'll see in a couple of days.
