Why is it all I can think about now is George

It's always seemed to me like there was this boundary line in Minnesota-- draw a line from Detroit Lakes across to Brainerd and anywhere North of that is another world.
Hillbillies with funny accents up there. They all live in ratty old mobile homes, drive giant Chevy pickups with gun racks, and watch NASCAR like their Southern kinfolk, but they have all these odd quirks like ice fishing, snow mobiles, and chainsaw art carvings.
Just this odd little pocket of weirdness. Like some indian tribe that was moved onto a reservation far away from their native hunting grounds and has adapted to their new environment.
Oh, and they all make giant statues of paul bunyon, paul's girlfriend, babe the blue ox, and giant muskies out of concrete which is another very strange local practice I've never understood. |
