MY shred-tastic '86 cords need to go, and I am removing all the interior for some renovation. Do you have tips and trick to share with your re-upholstery experience? Please post pics and give details. I found a few random hits on the search, but would love to get some summary to those pics out there. Also wondering if anyone with the Z-bad has replaced the pad material entirely (as well as the back pad I suppose)? I would like to make that more comfortable without needing to carry around a pillow top! Show your interior panels as well! _________________ On a mission, the destination is just an excuse.

That is awesome, especially because you are sipping the fine Sierra Nevada nectar and installing heat seaters as well. Going back for another read - great work!
Still looking for ideas on upholstery colors and designs. _________________ On a mission, the destination is just an excuse.

I have Zed brackets, I took the underneath forward bulkhead out and I got the seat, back, and back mattress with new foam and covered in leopard skin fabric. I did 4" as the old was but should have just got 3" as then it would have been able to open a cupboard.
I've only gotten to sleep in it once but it was really really cozy.
I got my foam and got it covered at a matress maker, I kept it all very simple. When I can get pictures I will. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

restitched my two fronts, but the availability of good fabric is bad, cause all the colors are greys and not very flexible
I cut an inch out of the tailbone area and replaced it with lower density foam to soften the hard point you end up squirming on after
60 miles.
lapped an apron of low density foam up over the ears to cover the canvas I glued to the rod pockets to stop the splitting
I opted away from the wire and horsehair on the backrest,[my mortal enemy] and dressed the springboxes with canvas and 1" foam,
glued and hog-ringed over the edges to the springs underneath.

These are gorgeous - where and how did you get those done? Did they add memory foam to plump up the seats? I'm trying to decide if Recaros are really worth the extra million dollars they cost. I sure do like the look of yours though - many others in here also look nice (beige leather or fake leather on the outside and brown tweed in the middle).

Those belong to a local guy in my area. They are in the maroon "homeade doka" that has popped up in a couple threads over the past year or two. As far as I know they are stock Vanagon seats that a local upholsterer recovered in leather. Not sure what the upholstery place did while the covers were off... _________________ 1986 Vanagon Syncro Westfalia Weekender |

Have a look at this thread:

Winston's Sew Fine interior tends to take the breath away from those who draw conclusions from his battered exterior. I'm still saving my pennies to do something about THAT.

Dan, is it as easy as finding a Eurovan Wheel and installing? What about the wrap? Looks so dang nice... _________________ On a mission, the destination is just an excuse.

|
|
Winston's seats are really gorgeous - what a great job. I love that tweed fabric.
I'm stunned that I haven't seen these parts of the Sewfine web site before:
http://www.sewfineproducts.com/colorado.html
Holy smokes, they have brand new SEATS they make to replace the old ones - complete with seat heaters and lumbar support (if so desired)...
How new is this development? Has anyone installed these yet? Wonder what they're like compared to some Recaros ... they're certainly less expensive. One Recaro is the price of a pair of these seats.
$1480 for a PAIR of Sewfine's tan vinyl "Colorado" seats with lumbar support & armrests on both, versus $1800 for a single Recaro seat in tan leather.
(I'm price-comparing the leather Recaro because the grey and black options would clash with my brown & tan interior.) _________________ Rebuilt 2.1 in a 1985 manual Camper

I pulled mine from a earlier eurovan a few years ago and couldn't be happier with the upgrade. It is a straight bolt on deal. I found the Wheelskin leather cover cheapest on ebay. To activate high beams is minorly harder though as the stalk just touches the wider eurovan base.
BTW- they only came in black. The one pictured from the van/truck was dyed. |

I sat in dogpilots van last week. And I can say yes if you have the money they are worth it. _________________ 89 Bostig powered syncro westy |
