All right, so I did a fairly extensive search and was amazed that there is no existing thread of 1970 beetles. If there is, I apologies, but I search back years due to the vague terms it could have been under and found nothing.
Please Post a picture of your 1970 beetle..Lets talk about 70's beetles ONLY
Im a pround owner of a 1970 vw beetle since 1993 its ben sitting since 2002

my 70 had a tree growing out of it when i got it. i did convert it into a baja and have built another 70 baja since. of all the year cars i have worked on, the 70 seems to be the most straight forward car (wiring, suspension, etc...) that i have worked with (not alot of bells and whistles). my 70 baja has dual rear spring plates so i dont know if mine is a early 70 or PO doings.
the only problem spot i have found is the bottom of the A post rusting and the front fender wells. |

This is my '70
I got her just over a year ago. She's my first beetle, and my daily driver. The only car I now own. She's been pretty reliable... aside from dying the night I bought her of course... |

this was mine when I first got a few years back. bought it to restore for step daughter but long story short it got sold after a lot of work went it into it. guy that bought it let it sit in storage for a few years, piling up storage fees, they got ahold of him and he said he didn't want it. they contacted DMV, found prior owner, contacted me and made me an offer, I countered low and picked it back up cheap, still with all the new parts I bought for it in the car in the same boxes they came in.
body work done, six years ago
painted six years ago
after buying it back, already did dropped spindles, disc and then cut and narrowed the beam 4", added adjusters, EMPI Sprintstars and new treads. PLan to finish it up when I transfer back home in a few months and make it my daily driver.

This is the way mine looked the day I picked her up:
A year later and it's got Briz Bumper style bumpers on it, no eyebrows, and original hubcaps. Don't know if it will be mine for long though, I was just offered stupid money for her yesterday and I'm still thinking it over. |

Quick shot took with a shitty camera last year.
Purchased in late '01 and hasn't been on the road in a few years. Last ran back in '07. Was painted a sissy girly light purple by the PO for
his daughter, but she did not like manual shift cars. It now needs complete restoration. _________________ Be kind to all critters. America's "H8TERZ" can drink sludgy used Motor Oil!

'70's are the best!
"Elsie" has been trouble-free since last summer's fix-ups. Drove my daughter to school thru sun & snow without a problem. Will take her to college next week! I feel like I'm sending two daughters off to school.

I bought my '70 in November 1972, the newest vehicle I've ever had. Still have it. It was in Hot VWs in April 1979 in Pride & Joys section. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Second owner of each. 1988 Mazda B2200 truck, 1998 Frontier, 2014 Yukon, 2004 Frontier King Cab. All manual transmission except for the Yukon. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335294 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335297 |

I love the '70 Beetle. It's the last year (in the U.S.) you don't have to specify "super" or "standard." They also don't have those vents by the back window that tend to rust out in my neck of the woods.
I also like the extra reflectors on the sides of the tail lights and off the rear bumper...
It's one of those one-off years that even a novice Beetle enthusiast can tell a '70 from any other year. |

I've owned two buses, but this 70 is my first T1 and I love it. Spent the summer putting it together cuz it was in pieces when I got. But hey, now I know how everything works.
