Hi RiceK..... yeah, I think I assembled the box correctly and the knobs are pretty snug. Here are a couple pix, maybe Anchovy will give me his thoughts...
The top tray without the grommet generally sits pretty level and I only leaned it over in these pix to illustrate how far it tips if you bump it. It will and does rock back and forth this much when you do bump it. It just doesn't seem right given the quality of the box ?
The bottom tray with the black grommet sits tight and square on the post and only rocks minimally.
Thanks for your help on this one guys ! |

OK, so I understand that the top is steady but the first blue tray is wobbly.
I don't have any of the newer carts anymore but as I recall, the first blue tray is not connected to the chain. It has it's own set of latches and can be moved independently from the top and bottom tray. That tray snaps into its own holes in the upright. This is a cool feature so you don't have to lift the entire contents of both blue trays at the same time when you are opening up the box.
Unfortunately, I think the independent tray design leaves it a little tipsy. I suggest you check that the latches are seating properly in the uprights just to be sure. |

Thanks Anchovy.... just to be sure I got my point across, here are a couple more pix to show you what I have....
All together, top, first and second tray with chains all the way through:
Top tray ( or lid) to the first ( wobbly tray ):
Top tray (no grommet) to the second tray that has a grommet:
Second tray (with grommet) then the tub:
I guess it isn't a big deal, but I never read anyone else having this problem and though maybe mine was built wrong ? |

I think we are on the same page.
The tray shown above, the first blue tray below the black top, is not connected to the chain. It has its own latches and basically "floats" independently from the lid and the 2nd blue tray.
In my opinion, since that tray is not under tension from the chain it is prone to wobbling more than the old design.
You might check that the latches and the guide for the tray are all in order but I think everything looks good and the wobble is inherent to the design.
The older style carts have all the trays on the chain. This makes erecting the cart harder, but the middle trays are more stable.
Still, a very cool cart with the folding arms. |

Right you are Anchovy !
You summarized my set up perfectly. Had I looked closer, I would have figured it out, even without knowing what it should look like. I agree that the design is what is causing the wobbliness and that's just the way it is !
Folding arms are the way to go, no doubt about that......
Hey, while I have your ear...... What's your take on the 162 C, the trolley with the "oil pan" bottom tub and what looks like deeper trays ? Do you pick up enough room that it might be worth looking into ?
Thanks for starting this thread many moons ago, I learned a lot.... Hope you have a chance to enjoy the weekend !

Nice one. For the record, is the top painted gray or hammered silver? Looks gray in the pics. |

Anybody have the specs / dimensions of the lock bar? Did it change over time, or was it the same from the 50s up? I need it, anybody ever made one? |

Great pictures, very inspiring. I was wondering if there is someone out there who can help me with a good quality scan of the 50's style Hazet logo. I am working on a little project and need a good scan of the logo.
TIA,

It is a fixed upright, 2 tray model 162. I think it is mid-80's, definitely later than 1979 since it does not appear to have the stool hole in the bottom container.
The bottom container comes in a few different variations through the years.
Here are some differences;
Early Hazet logo embossed into the container. (Up to 1965)
Modern Hazet logo embossed into the container. (After 1965)
Modern Hazet logo badge glued on the container. (???)
Storage tubes for removable uprights welded on the sides. (TS model)
Embossed with "Made in W. Germany". (???)
Embossed with "Made in Germany". (???)
No "Assistent" embossed on the container. (???)
No stool hole. (1980's????)
Uprights mount onto supports in the container, rather than sliding into the supports like the early models. (???)
Name tag badge on the end of the container. (pre-1980's???)
Early carts are painted, later carts are powder coated.
Dual locking casters versus single locking caster. |
