being the engine is out again, i am thinking of rolling it out of the garage this weekend and tackling any old crud in the fenderwells, underside and engine compartment. i don't have access to a pressurewasher and don't feel like renting one and loading it into my daily driver. Anyone know of a good non harming (of paint) chemical(s) to tackle the job?

a pressure washer is not the best thing. it will force crud into places where you don't want it. the best thing is warm water and a scrub brush. for tar and the like, lighter fluid or kerosene work well.

you better get that engine in. there will be no excuses for flanders.

I think earlyman got it right. just lie on your back and use warm water.

also probably right to worry about the engine first and the wheel well gunk later Shocked

Thanks for the tips. Yeah engine is at my Buddy's and is his loaner. Mine will get built AFTER Flanders. Think its just the main seal so while he has it, i am going to work on tidying up the engine compartment and the inner fender wells. i'll be at Flanders in my bus if i have to push, tow, or drag it there.

i just cleaned/degreased my bus engine bay while the engine and trans are out. Hasn't been touched since '67 I'm guessing.

I used Gunk Engine Brite first, it works ok - but doesnt cling and stinks like kerosene.

I got some Zep 50 Heavy duty foaming engine degreaser and it was awesome..foam clinged everywhere, didnt smell bad at all, didnt harm the paint, cleaned very well.

Both were used with a garden hose and micro fiber towel...

well since i don't have a working jack, i did the best that i could considering the situation. I spruced up the engine compartment again, no problem but the fenderwells have lots of tar stuck in there. Once i get the engine back, i will eventually get a jack for it and then remove each wheel and try some chemicals besides the brush treatment it got today. Thanks for the tips all!
Any future updates, i will put up in this link so as to not clog things up and be redundant.
