.................................hi your right i dont spend much time on samba ..i dont realy post that much ..i am busy working on my ralley bug right now and drag raceing that takes up a lot of my time...your right about the single port motors they do work well on the street .. what makes me wonder is how a small intake hole can feed so much fuel for my motor to rev to 7,000 rpm and run 9s i even took it to 7,800o in 3rd gear to see if it would pull it did lol i think every one is so into dual port heads and big ports big carbs keep up the good work.... i know that i am haveing a great time raceing this motor going to a all vw show this week end going to race the bug again spencerfvee..................................................................................................................................

Spencer, maybe you haven't searched enough on the forum but there are tons of SP advocates including Jake Raby and myself.
I have converted all of my cars over to SP just because of the torque curve.
They work well with me because I drive mostly highway miles and if you need to pass someone and your already at 70mph the SP's have the torque to do it much quicker than a DP.
I'm in the process of doing an turbo 1835 with stock DP heads besides larger valves. I will dyno it and then toss on a set of welded D port SP heads I got from Brothers VW and dyno that as well.... I think I'll be pleasantly surprised with the results. I'll post them up as well.
Thanks for posting up your info!

great job i am happy to see that more guys are into single port motors and you did the port work your self ... i used to use a drill too ...years ago it works fine ... i went through a lot of drills back then lol what i am happy about is when guys like you build your own motors and do it your way with out spending a lot of money and get the job done i very much like the engle 120 cam .. and i love the dellorto carb i am working on a set of single port heads with a bigger intake port empi sells a single port end castings that are bigger than my dds end castings and i can weld on them and port them i dont want to mess up a rare set of dds end casting keep up the good work on your bug spencerfvee ............................................................................................................................................

and i forgot to tell that my manifold does not have heat raisers, i make the heat raiser by wrapping the manifold around with soft coper tubing that connects from the monza holes then tape them with left overs of the Hotshield Minis Fiberglass, i know its kind of crazy when the original heat raisers tubes cost few dollars but not when its midnight and its the only thing
left to fired up the motor,

by the way my heat raisers are inspired in the in the aftermaket oil cooler
from OKRASA the one that looks like spiral

The engine is apart right now. I'm upgrading to a 1835 turbo and going to use the heads on my girlfriends car.
I put about 20k miles on them and the car was an absolute screamer. Bone stock bottom end, 87mm forged mahle's, dual 34's and a lightened flywheel. Its putting out 70hp. I had this car past 110mph... who says single ports limit your top end.

Ive never done any single port stuff but it looks like theres a lot that can be done to them, and I bet they sound wicked with what would be a mild cam in a d/p motor. the D port is nice but I would widen it out a bunch & go 44x37 if possiable.I have always thought about doing a set for my brothers lawn mower/tractor,( we use it to move the boat, car trayler, just about everything,)I doubt we would see much if any preformance addvantage porting it. never know I might have an early bug one of these day to do it to just fro fun(as a spair motor)
