Is this a one-of-a-kind coachbuilt or was it built on drawings available for anyone to acquire in the 1950’s? |

OH MY GOD THAT IS THE COOLEST VW COACHBUILT I'VE SEEN! Like seriously. CAPS were nessecary there. I Can't wait till this is finished!!!
Like seriously, I didn't just comment and exit, I came back to edit my post and say that this is a seriously cool opportunity to rebuild what looks like a great crazy 50's concept. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=366056 - My '73 Super Build. 2332cc, 16" Fuchs

Is that an aircraft canopy?
Cool car, it really needs to be finished. |

One tilts the hood up to step into the driver’s seat almost like a Mercedes-Benz 300SL gull-wing, except the hood rests at the underneath of the right side and vice versa if you step into the passenger’s side. |

The Plexiglass canopy is shaped/molded by the builder himself and fully integrated with the doors. |

This car was actually up for grabs until yesterday when it was up for auction at an Internet based estate sale. Seriously I haven't a clue who bought it. I thought it looks pretty cool though and wanted to share it with you guys !
Here are some other pictures:

Obviously a HEAVY 356 influence. I wonder who got it. Or is it still up for auction? In fact, the nose, rear window and decklid look to be straight out of a 356. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=366056 - My '73 Super Build. 2332cc, 16" Fuchs |

According to the auction company this VW is a coach-built from the 1950’s by a Swedish engineer. The original drawings have been preserved. It was never completed and hasn’t run since 1960. The body is made of hand shaped aluminium and the canopy is made of ¼ inch thick Plexiglass. |

Someone really did an outstanding job. It's too bad it never has been finished. There must be more known about this car. Wonder who bought it? |

The chassis appears to be a late 1949 chassis. |

A number of details would indicate this is a handbuilt car and not coachbuilt .A coachbuilt car would include a placard fastened to a panel installed early in the build indicating the builder (Barker , Mulliner , Vanden Plas , Hooper , Park Ward etc , the revision number , the construction method (superleggera, etc). The seams would indicate the car was not planned to be metal finished as the early HEB # 00006 , where some body filler was acceptable to the manufacturer . The greenhouse is clearly relative aero engineering of the time period .This appears to be a "one of" handbuilt . This is far more rare than a coachbuilt . Congratulations and good luck .

We really need to find out who built and designed this....this will greatly add or detract to/from it's value.
eg...if it were just some guy playing around with a VW chassis, then this car will belong to the same class as all of the other homebuilts and VW kit cars of the era....one of a kind but not extremely valuable. |
