When you put the heads on were the rocker arms already installed? I am puting together a 36 hp that was a basket case and I guess you back off on all the adjustments as the arms were in pieces. Thanks |

Can I ask you where you got your engine stand? And approx how much? Worth it or is a shop bench ok if thats all I have? |
The roll around stand from HF is decent for the money, but put one of these on it:

I had this setup on my recent 36hp build and even ran the engine on the stand to do the initial break in, which was nice. Very convenient. _________________ Not enough car seats fit into my:

Scott
I was looking at the VW Trends Aug 98 rebuild steps and I noticed Section 2 # 39 it says, "At the six main case studs apply sealant, the paper washer, metal washer, and nuts."
I also noticed that in your build you have the paper washers.
I bought the WW gasket set and it didn't come with the paper washers which to me seems like it should.
Do you or anyone else know if these washers can be bought separately or if they are even needed? I have the metal washers from when I first split the case but I was wondering how important the paper ones are? _________________ Shadetree Westy

floor all nice and dry. the PO had ground and scraped them so i just needed to get something on them
i got the speedo back in with a cleaned up bezel.
figured if i had to store the original mats till i get to cleaning them it might as well be on the floor where they belong. the biggest benefit to painting the floors is it got me to remove the pedal assembly and discover the master cylinder push rod pin falling out with no retaining pin
as part of the back to life plan i had to go through all the dash wiring and verify it with the meter. found some dubious wiring for the wipers that would have created a short had the switch been pulled with the ignition on. i am quite confident looking at it all the PO definately had a problem he couldnt sort out
so i called it a day with all under hood wiring tested and working. i hope to work on all the lights in the rear tommorow.

Hey man I can't believe I wasn't following your build thread progress before, I am now! post lots of pics and details as you go.
Looks great.
Maybe I can see it in person one day. We aren't very far from each other. _________________ L331 Horizon Blue January 1957 Canadian Deluxe Oval Beetle
