I've got a couple of yellow vinyl cushions in the garage that came from a Westy but I have no idea what year they're from. One is about 4' x 4' x 4" thick and the other is an odd-ball shape about four feet long, 6" thick and tapers from about 16" wide to about 6" wide. I know this may be difficult without the help of photos, but can anyone tell me what they might have come from? I know they must be pre-1974 but I don't know if they go back as far as the splitties. I'm going to put them in the classifieds but I'd like to be able to say what year they're from. I'll try to post pics later...
Thanks!
*here are some pics I snapped. Look familiar to anyone?*

Gotta be 1972 or earlier. 1972 was the last year for the mustard vinyl.
The 4x4 would be the cushion over the engine compartment that is part of the bed when the rear seat is folded down.
The other cushion sounds like a cushion made to be placed over the area where the spare tire normally sits. I've had a couple of them that were made with original vinyl, and looked OG, but they could have just been something someone has made. Not sure if they are original Westfalia. _________________ 1994 Dodge Neon w/supercharged 1500dp

Not necessarily. Early model '73's also came with mustard yellow leatherette material. I have one to prove it. _________________ My Bus Restoration Blog

OK... with the exception of your bus, the cushions belong in a 1972 or earlier Westfalia. And seeing as how you're not in the market for vinyl cushions, we can eliminate the cushions being needed for early 1973 models.
Thanks for playing! _________________ 1994 Dodge Neon w/supercharged 1500dp

Not sure what you mean by belong in a '72 or earlier model. Mine was actually manufactured with the leatherette.

Me too, same shitty stitching and wrinkles that no self respecting German would allow out of the factory as well, gotta be a dealer or PO addition. Mine also did an outstanding job of almost completely blocking the heater inlet, the spare coming off the nose happened even before I dug into the issues in engine compartment.
AB Westy, what kind of spare mount did the bus have? the riveted on plate or a flat bar affair that sat on the bumper as well as bolting to the nose? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

It just had the plate that was bolted/riveted to the nose. _________________ 1963 Ruby Red 356 Cabriolet

Hmm... OK, so likely not part of a spare relocation package, just curious. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Actually, now that I think of it the cushions were just in a '78 parts bus I had so they were clearly not part of the stock setup. So my comment on the spare mount is moot. _________________ 1963 Ruby Red 356 Cabriolet
