Bruce, ever put one of those long arms of yours on a car that didn't come with one? how about that pertronix? LSD? are those "approved" additions in your book? (not that I care, just don't enjoy hypocrisy...)

With the quality of today's aging fuel storage tanks I would hardly call a fuel filter an unnecessary part.

Don't you think fuel storage tanks at gas stations in the 60s might be old too?

99% of the tanks at gas stations have been replaced. They are typically fiber glass tanks now, with no possibility of rust.
Federal government made them replace the old steel tanks.

The new tanks have to be made of something other than fiberglass. One big problem in the boating community after ethanol was added was the fact that the ethanol was eating away at the fiberglass tanks in some boats. It would create a goop that would clog filters and injectors/carburators.

Hey now, she is wearing a seat belt! Obviously concerned for her safety... Rolling Eyes

On the subject of repairs not found in manuals; Plywood is a very effective patch for rotten floorboards. Use marine grade in damp climates.

The way that car is packed reminds me of a trip I made with my parents to TN from eastern NC one Christmas....I was in college at the time, at East Carolina University (ECU) and about three times we passed this bug that had an ECU parking sticker on it......the car was packed so full that the girl almost had her chest in the steering wheel. She wasn't going very fast, but she kept chugging on.

All those things are stock VW items (or emulating stock items). Extra filters are NOT stock.
My point is that many people here think an extra filter is a manditory requirement, and that VW prescribed it. Not so.
Too bad you don't get this.

LOL, thanks for *confirming* that if you approve of the addition, then it's fine... Laughing

you'd be surprised what I "get", but no one is surprised when you don't "get it"..... no one said an extra filter is mandatory, and I've posted as much many times over the years... Then again, those additions on your "list" of approved modifications aren't mandatory either... Wink
Maybe folks should put an OEM VW filter somewhere so you won't bitch and whine about it?

That's the part you don't get.
There are many many VW owners who have been brainwashed into believing that you must use those crappy filters between the pump and the carb.
I'm just trying to dispel the myth.
Why can't you get that?

I do get it, you just seem convinced that I don't(when in reality you aren't pulling your head out of your ass far enough to see that I agreed with you...)... listen up, jackass, I GET IT.. but you don't have to be a dick about it, that is what YOU don't "get"... becoming a hypocrite takes away credibility.
Oh, and did I mention stop being a jackass?

Back on topicc...

How about the two hammer method of tie rod removal. It pisses of the purist who can't stand to see a dent in a steering arm, but it works in a pinch, and it works every time.
