Beetle factory progressive refinements says: 19.3.1952, chassis 1-0336561, new jack type "Klettermaxe".

Should this mean the first generation ended then?

I would have to disagree with you on the style of jack you listed as '74-'79.

This page from a '72 manual clearly shows what you refer to as a '74-'79 jack. It has the stamped foot.

It means a new type was introduced. There would still be old stock to run thru, etc.

19 mar. 52 Tool kit
Now: jack. type "Klettermaxe "

1 Sept. 58 Tool kit
Now: Casting with hole for
tommy bar on load bracket
operating rod of vehicle jack .

NP. This should help those get a start.

If anyone else has anything to share, please speak up.

Jeff (Spanish Flea), anything you want to add?

Guys one thing to point out though, those manuals use the same pix over and over. So some of those pictures span over the change of a jack, so those pictures are not to be relied upon.

I found this doing my own research on jacks.

Very true. That is why I always look for the first time something new shows up in a manual. Even that does not pin point to when it changed. It is just the first time it shows up in a manual. It is very unreliable to use a manual to determine when some detail changed since they kept reusing the same photo over and over again.

I have a Jack similar to the toob style recommended in the origonal post for my 64 vert. I found that the jack mount in the spare tire well (passengers side) is square and looks likes it fits the above pictured jack. What is it called and were do you find one? Is this wrong or am I just a simpleton and can not figure out the holder for the jack correctly.

I also show these as being bus jacks Question

What do you mean by "cupped end for rod"? I am having a hard time telling the difference. Could you please show me what you mean so that I get the correct one for my 60.

He means the little rounded bulge above the area that goes into the jack point.

Does anyone have any idea about these two? I don't think they are KDF/VW but I'm not sure. I think one may even be pre-war.

Here are some more early split jacks...

1940 ? - 1946 (notice round arm). The arm is placed quite higt because it's for a Kübelwagen.
